Melanoides are useFUL : they bury themselves in substrate during day avoiding ground compacting thanks to their tunnels. They feed at night.
Wow! Awesome! Just remembered this guy on eBay who sold me: “Five Fancy Male Mutt Guppies” also has snails and some kind of plants that look like ground cover. He has terrific feedback. Fish came fast in tiny styrofoam chest. Interestingly, when asked about temperature, he said 62F. Sounds low to me. He says he’s bred them for 15 years. Right now they are at room temp, ~78F

I’m not sure that snails do ‘feast on plants’…I thought that they only ate damaged and dying leaf matter..?
Snails seek out new, tender plant growth, making your developing garden a prime target for their feeding activity. While the damage they cause to tender growth is obvious, few people are aware that snails also eat plant roots, stems, and fruits.

I copied this.

I believe that @JennySolano might be refgerring to terrestrial garden snails.
In the aquarium, Apple Snails will eat plants quite happily. In fact, I'm sure they actually giggle whilst they're doing it. ;)

But is this the same for aquatic snails..? It’s not what I’ve been told on here before…

Yes, I am. The snails in the yard. The ones I know best. 🐌🐌🐌

@JennySolano actually said "I had finer looking snails outside in California, feasting upon my plants, alas".

We all know that terrestrial snails eat plants.
There's a lot of positive info about aquarium snails NOT eating plants, but it is rare that such info mentions Apple Snails, which will munch down on a well-planted aquarium with some vigour.

Yes, I did say outside, referring to snails in the garden. Some were big and cool looking. Loved fresh salad. We also had banana slugs that lived up to their name. In appearance. You couldn’t peel and eat.

Sounds like you tried, though.

I seriously think Nerites are the way to go.
