Hi all,
I'm looking for help, my (suppose) to be red spot severeum has like a little white spot and his fin, just wondering has anyone seen anything like that?
I've asked local fish shops, they gave me parasite medicine but hasn't cleared up, they don't seem stressed and are eating fine, all water parameters are fine so I'm at a loss to figure out what it is.
Tried to get a picture but hard to the right angle of it.
Any help appreciated

Just monitor it closely, don't panic. Cichlids get these things from time to time and they usually go away. Check your water parameters, and do regular water changes.

How big is your tank, who else is with them. Photo of whole tank would be nice, Thanks

This is my old Severum tank

Hi, thanks for replies,
The tank is 450l, and the current stock is, 2 rokteil's, 2 red spots, 2 gold severeum, 3 angels, 2 dwarf guarami, 4 clown loaches, 5 barbs as well, bala shark and 2 pleco.
All other fish are fine now issues with any of them, all other severeums look healthy, have good color, just the 2 red spots severeum, one has horrible colour that looks like there is a issue, and the other the lil white spot on the belly, trying to pinpoint it awhile now, have treated for parasite, the whole tank but still hasn't changed. Tank is running about 2 years at this stage

It could be bullying.

The fish with the small white spot on the belly just needs to be monitored and not treated yet. If the spot doesn't change then ignore it. If the spot gets bigger then post more pictures.

Do they get any plant matter in their diet?
Severums should have some plant matter in their diet. Live aquarium plants are the best but they will also chew on things like cucumber, zucchini, pumpkin, spinach and marine algae from Asia supermarkets.

You can also grow Duckweed outside in tubs and bring some in each week for the fish to eat.

Yeh they get plenty of plants, i initially thought that was the issue myself, but there was no change, the last few were eaten away only in recent weeks, they get a bit of cucumber most days, they eat that up, and then at weekend they get peas as well. They have frozen bloodworms as well usually once a week.

I think that’s a heavy stock for bulky cichlids like severum , your going to have 4 8inch fish once mature and I’m assuming it’s a 5ft tank, along with the two pleco guessing common?

Yeh it is a busy tank to be fair, they not fully grown yet, got most of them as babies. How many do you reckon would be suitable for that size tank?

I think it could be bullying. I would like to see more large size rocks. Try and divide the tank into "rooms" so all the fish have a space they can call homes. Severums really like to have their own rock, that they feel safe around.

Hi just a update on this,
The spots are still there, and I think it looks like a type of fungus, it's so hard to tell, but I've been watching closely, seems to be only effecting him, but it does like like a fungus or like mould? Not sure how it has gotten into tank, I don't think it's bullying myself as there never seems to.be any nipping, and he's prob one the biggest one I have. Not sure how to treat this now.
