I've removed my condensation tray for a bit more appealing open top. I know I'll get a quicker water evaporation process.
What would most people do: just top it up or still do the water change; for instance 1 bucket out 2 buckets in.
I have live plants

If the level has dropped too much for your liking in-between water changes, then top it up with dechlorinated, temperature matched water

I normally take 2 buckets a week out (20%) now with this set up i was going to wait till the water drops to the inlet( roughly 1 bucket) then take another bucket out, resulting in replacing 2 buckets

When water evaporates it leaves behind the minerals so if you only top up, the minerals increase and the tank water has a higher GH than the tap water. Depending on your fish and the GH of your tap water, this could negatively impact the fish. Fluctuating parameters can also stress fish so this is less than ideal. Also 20% is a small water change, I prefer 50% weekly to make sure the water is clean and parameters do not drift from the source water.

My tank can loose 20-30 litres a week through evaporation, just the territory of an open tank

So to much evaporation is not advisable and still do weekly changes

If you do want to top up, use RO water. That has nothing dissolved in it, like the water which evaporated.

Don't you need to mix RO it with your dechloranated water

For topping up, it doesn't need to be mixed with tap water. Pure water is leaving the tank, so just replace it with a source of pure water. Because chlorine/chloramine is removed in the RO process you don't need to add dechlorinator either.

Apologies for racking your brain but has RO water got a shelf life? so, Let's say I bought 20l would i have to use it within a time limit

I've not used RO water so I'm not sure. I presume if you kept it long enough, it may grow bugs of some sort as there's no chlorine to kill them. other members who use RO would know.

Ok, cheers ?
