Mollies With Tapeworms

The gals. So I guess that the video that is auto formatted with my phone is incompatible with fishforums. Oh well...the gals looked quite good!

Oh, you have a video? Yeah, the video function on here doesn't work, but if you upload the video to youtube, you can put the link here and people can watch it! :D

Tubifex. *Adding this to my look for list*
Don't use Tubifex worms unless they are freeze dried. Even then they aren't something I would use.

Tubifex are found in sewer systems and are regularly infected with parasitic worm eggs and bacteria. The freeze drying process apparently kills these things but I am not a big fan of them.

I would never use live Tubifex.

Yep and thank you. I have a background that alerts me to issues involving water, protein source, salt balance and no FDA investigation. But, yes. What I found (and looked for) were freeze dried. I am REALLY hoping that the freeze and dry process lets the hitchhikers die off.

Well, I deleted the video NOW...because I had something to share with our grandchildren a 1000 or so miles away...But, the little critter does show up and how that I have safe tubiflex worms, I might use them to lure the little 'it' to the side of the tank where I can get a really good video!

The little 'it' (so far) loves it. Because it's safe, I plan to enhance the diets of all my fish.?

OK. So, now that I've have the girls (beautiful mollies, since mid to late January) I(after treatments that would probably cause me to lose my hair (I've got a LOT of hair) am looking at the third week of Prazentiquel. The proglottids showed up for the first time since about 4 days ago again last night. I was going to give the molly girls another does of Prazipro anyway. But, while this is going on, the dalmation molly is showing signs of fin rot. BUT...now that I know what is causing the fish to stress (Oh, you know, the malachite green and erythromycin mix, the following nitrofurazone, and then the prazentiquel...) this fin rot might just be stress. I've got some aquarium salt on the way from chewy. The tank needs, so sorry to say for that dalmation molly, another dose of Prazipro. So, if the aquarium salt takes care of the stress that this poor fish is experiencing, we'll see. If nothing else, it will calm the fish down. Mollies are native to brackish waters. Brackish means that the saline content is somewhere between fresh and salt. These pretty little boogers are native to shoal waters around the Florida Keys, where fresh water conduits (rivers) dump fresh water into a salt water interface. So, a little salt might make that poor molly feel better. Or, at least I am really hoping so. because, these gals are going to get another dose of antihelmitic. If the fin rot doesn't subside, I do have erythromycin. Lincosamides tend to be broad spectrum. I gave it to them initially because I had absolutely no idea what was wrong. Well, I did, but it seemed far too chaotic to be what I thought I was seeing. Amoxicillin, a penicillin type antibiotic, might be a bit less harsh. If the salt doesn't cure the stress issue with this poor fish, I'll try amoxicillin first before I give it really big wham-bang with Erythromycin.
