I know not all tanks are measured the same, but I'm hoping someone can help me figure out where to look to find the right lid for my tank. I bought my tank off craigslist several years ago, so I'm not exactly sure what kind it is. It does have a divider on the top, so it currently has two lids. I tried to measure one of the openings on the top but the measurements I'm getting do not line up with the lids I have seen on Petsmart/Petco.

I need new lids so I can get new lights. The type of lights that came with the lids I cannot find anywhere and there is no way I can purchase new lights and use the current lids. Is it possible to get a lid to cover the full thing even with the center brace, or should I plan on two lids? I don't have a preference either way, but I would like to get light back into my tank. I'll post a picture of the lights I have too. Maybe someone knows where I can find these (assuming they still make them and they are good lights), and I would only have to replace the lights.

My preference is a glass lid with an led light that extends the length of the whole tank.

Assuming this is a standard 55 gallon as it is very common in the hooby, this should not be hard to find.

I bought a glass lid for my 55 somewhat recently (it was not labeled on the box correctly) for less than 50 bucks for both pieces at petsmart.

I believe that the lid that I ended up using was for a 20 long. 2 pieces fit perfectly on my 55. The lid that was marked as a 55 would have covered the entire tank and fit a 75 and 90 perfectly.

Assuming its the standard 48" long 55g, this glass top would work with whatever choice of light you decide on

It is 48" long, but when I was looking at this lid it says for tanks 18". Mine is not even 16" wide. I am getting 48x13x21 for my dimensions when I measure it. Am I misreading the measurements for this lid? I want to make sure it will not be sticking out the back of my tank.

I got ya. I'm standing in front of my 55 with a tape measure right now. 48 Inches long, 12. 5 inches wide. The lid is 23x9.5 (2 of them) this leaves room to put a hang on back filter in and should come with a plastic piece to fill in the gaps.

Glass is 12.5 inches wide 13 with the trim. You have a standard 55.

So if you want glass lids, the glass itself should measure exactly 23x9.5 for each piece.

Awesome, super helpful thanks! I'm not picky, just looking to replace the lights. Figure best way is to upgrade everything lol.

Any special brand or type of lights you prefer?

Depends on what plants you have or plan to have.

Then I would only be sure the lights you pick have a rating above 6500k. Those plants would do fine with just that.
