Ok a local breeder I often use has uploaded photos of his new stock while browsing through I see he has giant gourami ,, huge , and then something called asiatic rams ..... so baffled by the idea of an Asian ram I do some digging on the internet and haven’t found anything in relation to asiatic ram , il post a photo iv left out his name and license number but looking at the photo they look like a mix of a Bolivian and electric blue , what you guys think ? Is there Asian rams ? Or is he just making this up ?

He said he don’t know there import from Thailand along with the gourami , I am assuming they a Asian fish farm scrap ?? As I thought all rams are South American

Shops and wholesalers often make names up. It's probably that these fish were bred in a fish farm in the far east.

The fish in the photo are ordinary rams, Mikrogeophagus ramirezi. A bit pale because they are stressed in a shop tank. This what rams look like when they are not the gold or electric blue varieties.

It’s a blue ram bred in Asia. I saw some gold rams labelled as Iranian Rams once they were super orange and the biggest fattest rams I’ve ever seen so they must have been line bred for that trait presumably at a farm in Iran. This one looks like a long fin ram so the asiatic name must be associated by that farm with that trait.

In general are these fish healthy ? I don’t understand why not label as Asian bred blue ram , if I breed my pleco could I label the fry as Birmingham pleco lol

They like to make unique name to make people buy it.

I get that but honestly it put me off buying them lol and I keep thinking being bred in Asian would that mean they have altered water parameters than there wild counterparts

Well...you're not wrong, I lived in Thailand and I know that they like to breed "quantity over quality" fishes like guppies with soft water and if you buy lots of them one of them is gonna die in the bag.
