I'm wondering if I should euthanize my fish and if so how

Any chance of a picture and short 30 second video of the fish?
If the pictures are too big for the website, set the camera's resolution to its lowest setting and take some more. The lower resolution will make the images smaller and they should fit on this website. Check the pictures on your pc and find a couple that are clear and show the problem, and post them here. Make sure you turn the camera's resolution back up after you have taken the pics otherwise all your pictures will be small.

If the video is too big for this website, post it on YouTube and copy & paste the link here. We can view it at YouTube. If you are using a mobile phone to take the video, have the phone horizontal so the video takes up the entire screen. If you have the phone vertical, you get video in the middle and black on either side.

Do a 75% water change and gravel clean the substrate every day for at least 1 week or until we work out what is going on. This will help dilute anything bad in the water and might help.

OK, Here's a picture:

Have you done the 75% water change and cleaned the substrate yet?

Make sure that when you refill the tank, you temperature match the new water to the tank temperature, and use a water conditioner.

I haven't gotten a chance to go to the store and get water, but I will be able to clean the gravel tonight, or at the very worst tomorrow morning. The only water conditioner I have is pH down. Also, how do I match water temperature? Do I put the water in a bucket and put the tank heater in it?

I usually add some boiling water to the bucket of water I'm going to add, float a tank thermometer in it and add hot water until it's close to the tank temperature, within a couple of degrees at least. Abrupt changes in temperature put the fish into shock, so keeping it close to the same temperature is important.

Is your tapwater not suitable for the tank?

pH down isn't a water conditioner, a water conditioner removes chlorine and chloramines from tap water, both of which are also toxic to fish.

Why are you trying to adjust the tank pH?

I don't really add pH down and am not currently; I think it's just something I bought around the time I started the tank. I prefer using spring water rather than tap water because I don't really know what's in it. I've seen some reports that say that various drugs have been found in tap water, so I just feel safer using spring water. Thanks for your tips on matching water temperature; I'll use it when I do the water change.

I would say the vast majority of fish keepers use their tapwater which they condition with a tap water conditioner such as Seachem Prime, or API Tap Water Conditioner. Those who don't use tap water, probably use rain water or well water because the fish they keep require a different level of hardness or PH.

The fish has been bashed and its swim bladder has failed. Whack it on the head.
