I bought a pair of convicts about 2 -3months ago and they were tiny about half an inch I have found they are both Male as I know about there nightmare breeding and I’m shocked at the growth rate of one of these convicts , they were the same size 3 months ago now one is over 3 inches and the other barely 2 , is this normal ? Is one growing fast or is one growing slow , but the growth rate in comparison to my acara is staggering

Central Americans always grow faster than South Americans. How sure are you that you have 2 males? The females stay smaller than males.

Alternatively the dominant male is packing on size and the sub is growing slower usually due to stress. I've explained before you are likely to run into issues with your stocking - these might be the first signs.

im 90% sure of two males as they avoid each other and neither has the orange tht a female normally shows , the larger is far more confident and will surface to feed among the other fish as where the smaller will sit and wait for the left overs , il post a picture of the larger one as I’m sure there Male maybe you can confirm this for me

Here’s an old photo of my big male convict he’s a monster. The fins are the ultimate give away between male and female on these fish in my opinion.

Would you say mine is a male he’s a big fish for his age can’t be older than 3-4months and 3inch already

To be honest it’s hard to tell I’d sway towards saying yours being a female mate due to males having larger dorsal and anal fins I could be wrong though. If it’s a sexually mature female they sometimes have yellow or orangey colouration on the lower of there belly. Hope this helps
