Hey - what a crazy few days!

My power was out after Storm Ellen for about 36 hours. The water temp went from 30.7 down to 23.9. While I was out power restored & tank temp was 29.6 when I got home. I tested the water once I'd power back on and these are my results....

Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0.3
Nitrate 10

I did a 75% water change and now water temp is 30.6 again (last few days of ICH treatment due to finish Sunday).

Is high Nitrite normal given the filter was off for so long? Or have I interupted a cycle? The tank is only finished a fish in cycle since 16th August.

Will I extend ICH high temp treatment?

Oh man that was soooooo stressful. Fish are behaving ok and tank looks ok after water change.

It may be because of the bacteria in the filter but I really do not know for sure. I would just test and monitor and do water changes when needed. It may just need to settle back down after the power loss.

Cool, thanks. Some of my plants look a bit yellow or pale. I'm just glad they fish are all alive and overall the plants look ok. Poor fish have had a stressful time!

They're used to big daily changes and the crashing fish in Cycle has to be worse than this. Fingers crossed.

Good luck man!

All of that is really hard to go through, even without fish - keep it up! :fish:

I was actually mostly worried about the fish. I'd just gotten the tank cycled. I think I saw some flashing again so might need to keep up the high temp too. This tank is cursed!

Hang in there, the joys of having fish, I still have to do more work on my 55 gallon tank after fixing the leak (fingers crossed) to get it back to normal too. :dunno:

I had a tube of silicone to patch it with, the bad thing was I had to drain the tank down to about 6 inches of water and then let the silicone dry for 24 hours before refilling the tank. I had lots of plants which went everywhere so I will be trying to get it back to order. Did not loose any fish but not sure. I have almost 50 small tetras in there so I added an air line and bubble stone for the fish.

Very good to hear that - was worried for them...
