hello everyone,

so just recently we decided to get fishes. we got 2 small guppies and a little shrimp as recommended by the petshop people. our little son wanted fishes and we new comers to this world so didnt want anything too complicated, but it seems every corner anything comes up we are lost. at first we had them in a 2.5g tank and had them for about 1 week now. the other day we got a new tank. fluval spec v 5g tank. and i set the tank up, we did the water treatment. i tested the water and everything is perfect as it needs to be. only thing is these white particles in a new tank. the tank had a charcoal pack for the filter and a biomax pack. first time working with either of those as the other tank had one of those small rectangular filter pad things and was easy. i followed directions and washed it good before inserting in the enclosure and into the tank. so is it related to the white biomax thing that we have in the filter or is this something else?

no fishes have been introduced to the new tank yet. just some colorful gravel and a mountain like decor and few non living planets.

Hello and welcome to the forum! :hi:

Are the white particles on the glass? Or floating around in the water? Do they appear to be moving? Are they straight or squiggly?

Another thing you may want to consider, is the fact that guppies need a bigger tank than just a 5g. What is your pH, GH, and KH? You can find this information out by going to your local water providers website, or by calling them. (We need actual numbers. Ex. ppm)
