I'm very new to this hobby, I have a 300 litre tank with 43 fish of all different species, currently I have an issue with one of my guppies, I have 20 guppies in total and the guppy in question looked like is was covered in fur..... I have 4 platys that I bought earlier this week but after a couple of days of putting them in my tank I noticed that two of them had white patches on them, I went to my local aquarium store and they advised me the platys looked like they had a fungal infection and advised that I quarentine them and medicate the water with interpret fungal and fin rot treatment.

Whilst I was trying to catch them that's when I noticed one of my guppies also looked a bit fury so I caught that too and quarentine her with the new platys. Today though, I have taken a closer look at the guppy with the zoom on my camera and realised that she actually looks more like she has dropsy rather than a fungal infection, now I am at a loss as to what to do as the quarentine tank is already medicated with the fungal treatment and I don't have a separate tank to separate her into nor do I have the space for another quarentine tank..... Please, please, please can somebody advise me what the best thing to do would be.... I have attached pictures of both the platys and the guppy.

Also in my tank I have 6 angels, 4 clown loaches, 2 Mollies, 4 cherry barb and 2 bristlenose Pleco, non of these other fish seem to have any issues and seem to be very happy, I can normally gage when something is wrong in the tank as the clown loaches will show signs of being unhappy but the are very active and happy at the moment.

Parameters in the tank so
Amonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nutrate 40

Thank you in advance for anyone who responds

Natasha

Btw clown loaches like larger groups and need at least a 150 gallon tank when they are adults

I'm a bit annoyed as some aquarium shops don't advise on these things, they just sell them to you, I told the shop when I bought them how big my tank was but they still sold them to me.

Pet stores don’t give good info they just want to make a sale sadly. https://seriouslyfish.com/ is a good place to find info on tank size, temperature, ph,etc

Yes, sadly I have found that out the hard way.... I won't make the mistake of buying fish without researching them first again.

Do you have any advise about the guppy with dropsy

I have no advice on dropsy, I did tag 2 people who are really knowledgeable when it comes to fish disease. If they show up listen to them.

Forgot to ask did you cycle the tank? What is ph, gh, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels?
No, I didn't cycle the tank, literally bought the quarentine tank 3 days ago, the guy in the aquarium shop advised I take the risk without cycling the tank to avoid the rest of my fish getting the fungal infection, I didn't have any spare sponges in my sump..... Like I said, I'm very new to this.

The ammonia and nitrite levels are 0...... Nitrate is 20, PH is 6.4, GH is 8

Your problem is definitely coming from not cycling the tank. What you can do is do daily water changes. That will at least help. Don’t buy/ use anything called stress coat. I see many people use it but it has aloe which is not good for your fish.

Okay

But because I've got the fungal treatment in the tank will it still be affective if I do the water changes. I haven't been using stress coat I've been using a product by Natural rapport, pic attached, I have also been using stress zyme though by Api which is meant to add beneficial is that okay to use

Can’t help you because I have never used either of these, someone else will have to help. Look okay but not 100% sure if they are good.

@NatashaCole the only thing I can think of right now to help the fungal infection is Dosing aquarium salt it may help.
Great

I bought some of that today but was scared to put it in as instructions seemed to suggest quite a lot.... It said 9g per litre for treating sick fish... Its a 25 litre tank so that works out at 225g over 3 days at 75g a time, does that sound about right to you
