Tank progress

Here is what I use for lighting on my 10g tank:

As you can seem I have an LED clip light. I clip the lamp to the white shelf you see in the picture. (You can clip it to the back of the tank)

It works super well for me and it looks really good.

If your Lao doesn’t have a clip, then just set it up on one side and adjust it so the head of the lamp is over the center of the tank. :)
 
Re the food, you could try crushing a couple of pellets and see if he'll eat smaller pieces. I had to do this for my current betta when I first got him. He's bigger now and i don't need to crush them.

I agree. I have to do that currently with my betta, Ace. (Profile picture)

He is so young and his mouth is so small, I have to crunch them up or cut them in half.
 
I can definitely try to crush them for him, but he's one of the larger bettas I've seen so I'm not sure size is the issue, unless he has an underdeveloped mouth from inbreeding? He has definitely expressed interest in eating, and fit two pellets simultaneously in his mouth on the very first day, but he spat them out immediately

You might have to soak them first. They could be to hard for him.

So good to be back in this thread and not the emergency one! Hank finally got a light for his lamp today. It's not tall enough to go over the top, plus I have a hood over the tank, so it's shining in on one side. It won't be on while I'm not in the room because it may get hot after some time, so luckily it has a switch

I'm still on the hunt for something to cover the back of the tank, but I am also on the market for a bubbler for Hank since he absolutely LOVES playing in them. I was thinking about putting it behind the bridge, but I am taking suggestion both for brand and placement

I would suggest keeping in on all the time, lights coming on and off can stress the fish :)

Mine gets hot enough to melt thin plastic. It will be ok. ;)

I agree. The light should be on at the same time of day, for the same length of time, every day. And the room should be in daylight or the room light should be on for at least half an hour before the tank light turns on and for at least half an hour after the tank light turns off. The light should not be turned on or off when the room is in darkness
The easiest way to have the light on and off at the same time every day is to use a time switch.
 
I wouldn't add too much light or an airstone yet. Let the fish recover for at least a few weeks before adding any aeration.

If you add an airstone now, the fish could get knocked about by the water movement that is created from the bubbles.
 
Okay, I'll be leaving the light off, and I'll get the air stone later. I did purchase a gravel vac because I've been asked about that before, and I would be able to clean up sinking food much easier. It's a small size from Top Fin. Knowing this now, should i wait to clean with it until he's completely recovered?
 
Leave him in the tank and keep doing water changes. If you can gravel clean some of the substrate when you do a water change, that will help.

Try not to disturb him too much when water changing or gravel cleaning the tank.
