Tank progress

I'll upload a picture of my 10g tank (Almost exactly setup like yours) later on this afternoon. I am an "Expert" in DIY lights for tanks, lol. :)

My mom supports my fish habit now! She came home with a few things and said "guess who has a surprise for you! It starts with F for fish" and then handed me that long piece in the back and a new fish net. I think she's starting to understand how invested I am in this :yahoo:

Hank was a little shocked that I had the audacity to rearrange his tank so he's spectating from under his bridge in the first photo, but I'm happy that he's got more to explore! Now I just have to make sure I don't panic when he hides behind the long piece and I can't see him :D

That is awesome! :)

Something that will help settle the fish and make viewing easier is a background. Plant dark construction paper is ideal, Iuse black construction ppaper. It makes the space appear larger, it settles the fish, and the colours in the tank will be more noticeable.

@Quin, I'm so happy for you and Hank. It's nice when a newbie takes on board the advice given and acts on it, only asking questions to clarify a point, or to make sure they're on the right track. While a lot of newbies, like yourself, do absorb the advice given, some don't. They argue, or worse, they tell you what you want to read, and then go ahead and do their own thing anyway. I was only joking when I said "Good luck", to Hank. He's a very lucky fish and I look forward to watching you both progress. :)

Thank you for making me smile.

I’m glad your mom supports you! It’s always good when parents support what you love.

It is normal for Hank to be a little ruffed up at this. You would be to if someone went into your room and rearranged everything, wouldn’t you?

I still like the tank, really colorful :good:

Thank you to @FishkeeperLinz and @PheonixKingZ ! I appreciate the kind comments and the support you've given me, and I especially appreciate that you among others have helped me keep my head on straight while worrying over Hank's health.

I do definitely try to be as receptive as possible to advice, especially when speaking to people who know more than I do. I decided to get a betta because I made the wrong assumption that they were the easiest fish to care for and that I was equipped with everything I needed. I was genuinely terrified at first that I would be attacked for my mistakes rather than shown how to fix them, and every positive and helpful comments really does ease my anxiety! I also agree, it is super awesome to have your parents support you! My mom told me how cheap she got both of my gifts for, so I think my new goal is to start price checking everything so that I can afford more to spoil Hank! Floating plants and freeze dried bloodworms here we come d:D

Floating plants and freeze dried bloodworms here we come

Not sure where the freeze dried bloodworms came from, but I would not recommend this food. Fresh frozen bloodworms, only once a week (as as sort of treat) OK. But the freeze-dried are not the best nutrition. A good quality flake or small pellet food is better.

That's good to know! I assumed I should give him that because I read that that's what they feed them at the store, but if it's not the healthiest option I won't be going for it. My mom absolutely won't tolerate any worms in her freezer, so I think I'll have to see if Hank will eat chopped up pellets or flakes. I haven't seen him eat in 4 days, except for a rock that I did not see come back up or out :/
Maybe that's why he's acting funny today?

As @Byron said, I don’t suggest feeding him blood worms. They are very fatty.

He probably isn’t eating because he is still getting adjusted to his new home.

What kind of food do you feed him?

Currently he is being offered pellets at the reccomendation of the petsmart manager

If Mom won't tolerate worms in her freezer, you could try him with live or freeze-dried daphnia, brine shrimp and white worms. I'm sure there are others, but I've just woken up, so my brain's not fully in gear yet. -_-

Be wary about advice from anyone who works in a fish store, even the manager. The vast majority give poor advice.

What brand are the pellets you were advised to get? Some can be too big for a betta and need to be broken smaller.

I don’t suggest taking advice from large retail pet store managers. They can be very wrong and mostly are half the time.

How many pellets a day are you feeding him?
