I don’t suggest test strips, as they can be inaccurate.

Where are you getting this spring water? From an actual spring?

I don’t suggest it.

Even if the spring seems clear, it can house a lot of microscopic organisms that can be harmful to your fish.

$10 for a bottle of water conditioner is much better than lots of dead fish.

Get the spring water tested by a lab/ water testing company and if it's clean and has a suitable pH and GH for your fish, use it. You can filter the water before using it.

If the OP wanted to filter it. I though she just meant take it straight from the spring.

If it's clean they can take it straight from the spring, but it should be checked first to make sure it is safe.

I know I'm asking alot of questions ...but I Google and some questions are not always clear and have different opinions...for testing ..30 min drive at PetSmart...and they don't seem to know much...is there a device or product I can buy on Amazon ..online..order or store.....where I can get a digital tester or best water testing product for our fishies

It depends what is in the water. The tests pictured are good for moderately soft water species, but we've no idea what other substances or pathogens may be present. If you are serious about this, you could take a sample to a professional lab for a complete water test including microbiotics, which may be expensive.

In your area (NB) you are in a temperate climate. That means the fish in the local ecosystem have to deal with various pathogens and thus evolve to deal with these. Tropical waters are different in the pathogens and fish. This is one of the serious risks of putting any tropical fish/plants/snails in the local ecosystem...there could be pathogens that local water life cannot deal with.

Do you mean to test your KH and GH? Or to see if the water is safe...?
