I am looking for new food for my 8 neon tetras in my 29g tank.

My “trial” food has run out from my last Walmart tank buy (lol) so I am looking for new food. What do you guys suggest? I have always used the Tetra Min flakes, because they aren’t that expensive.

Which one would I get? (I can’t tell a difference except the “plus” and not)

I personally don’t like that brand. Lots of fillers in it. Look at the protein content and stay away from foods with lots of meal in them. Better quality foods do cost more but you usually get more and they last so long anyway that it isn’t a big expense when you break it down.

I concur with deanasue and Russjw. Humans can live on what we might call junk food, but most agree we are better with less of that and more of the healthy quality foods. So too are fish. I always look at the ingredients on the package; "whole fish" or "whole shrimp" is a very different ingredient that "fish meal" or "shrimp meal."

Yes, that is one of the best foods for all fish. Ingredients include insect larvae and whole salmon. Over on CorydorasWorld this food is highly recommended, and Ian Fuller knows enough about Corydoras that I am convinced. My cories as well as the upper fish really go after this food. I feed it twice a week. There is no harm in feeding this as more of a staple because insects and insect larvae are primary foods for most aquarium fish.

Ok...I’m getting 2 different messages here.

@Russjw is sayin that this is a treat, not a main food. @Byron is saying that this is a main food for his fish.

I would like to get a healthy, beneficial food for my neon tetras.

Here is a picture of the nutrition facts in my betta food, please tell me your thoughts:

If Byron says theres no harm for using it as a more daily staple then id certainly trust what he says.

Me personally, i only feed it once or twice a week because i alternate it with omega one flakes and new life spectrum through the week (i have 1 fast day) i like my fish to have a variety :)

Oh, ok.

So does my betta food look good?

I gave no comment (yet) on the Betta Bits. The food I was commenting on is the Fluval Bug Bites that was linked in post #6. I use it twice a week, along with Omega One Veggie Flakes once, New Life Spectrum flakes once, two fast days, and frozen daphnia after the water change as their treat for putting up with me bashing around in their tank.

I know nothing about Betta Bits, and in the photos you did not post one of the ingredients so I can't say more.

In that post #9 you did include a photo of a yellow-top can which is dehydrated bloodworms, and those definitely should not be fed more than once a week, and then only if thoroughly soaked and water logged before going in the tank. I personally would not feed these at all. They seem similar to freeze-dried bloodworms, and I stopped feeding these some years back and I believe it was a wise decision.
