My new Betta!

I find it odd that in the US they call some bettas koi plakat or other plakat bettas but in other languages plakat just means betta. There is literally no reason for it to have the word plakat when it already has the word betta
Yes, exactly.

No problem :D congrats on deciding on a name for him

Thanks, I love him already! I am having to crush up the betta pellets, because he is so young, lol. :)

Beautiful Plakat Betta with red and purple/blue colours.
It's usually more hardy than the bigger and longer tail Bettas.
You have to train it to get used to your food as the fish farm usually feed them with worms.

Thanks! Yes, I have been sort of training him to eat the pellets. Before a few days ago, he would only eat small pieces of blood worms.

I also have to crunch up the pellets because he is so young and can’t eat the regular size pellets. :)

You can try Hikari Micro Pellet if you want smaller pellets.
Most of my smaller fish like Furcata Rainbow, Lemon Tetras, Koi Plakat Betta and even my picky eating Discus will eat Hikari Micro Pellet as it's small enough for them.
Just buy the smallest packet and keep them in air tight container.

Hikari offers many sizes, shapes, ingredients of food to cater for different species of fish.

Thanks! I’ll look into those. ;)

I also need more food for my Neon Tetras. (I prefer flakes)

Any suggestions?

Hey guys! Some more pictures of my beautiful boy eating:

I love these because you can see his reflection on the surface of the water. :)

Yes, flakes is good especially for top and mid level fish like Betta, Neon Tetras as they will float at the top most of the time.
I know most people will go for Tetra brand but I think the ingredients are average only.
But it's still ok and I think any brand is ok as long as they eat.

For my fish, I used the following brands:
1)New Life Spectrum "Grow Formula"- this brand is recommended by many people as they used the "whole fish" instead of fish meal(left over part of the fish).
But some fish may find this brand of food harder to chew/swallow especially the Discus(they don't have teeth and they used their jaws to grind). Some picky eaters like Discus, Blue Rams, Apistogrammas may not eat this brand.(from my experience).
The food also contains Fruits, Vegetables, etc which are important for balance diet.

2)Dr Bassleer Regular - the M size is quite fine and most small fish will eat even the picky eaters.
3)Tropical Discus Granule
4)Hikari
- Micro pellets, Vibes(the shapes are like worms), Discus Bio Gold.
If you smell the Hikari fish food, they smell quite good.
5)Ocean Nutrition
6)Tetra Pro Color Crisps - most fish will eat

I tried to look for fish food with at least 50% of protein for my Discus since they are still young. For Discus fish, I look for higher contents of Protein and Fats.
I think Betta also prefer higher protein food.

I think as long as you don't keep the African herbivorous fish, most generic fish food are ok.

Be careful if you are using bloodworms.
I read a Discus forum where quite a numbers of people commented that they are allergic to bloodworms and the allergic reactions can be quite serious (breathing diffculties, rashes, etc). Even the dried bloodworms dust can cause severe allergic reactions.
Some packaging of bloodworms will have warning of allegic reactions.
You can search the internets for more info if you are interested.
