Hi all, i purchased two platnium angels when they were young they were totally platnium after 5 months they have turned completley yellow any ideas ? Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

Can you post a picture of the fish when they were young and one of them now?

Assuming they are eating and acting normally, and are not sick, they could be hybrids (between several different colour varieties) and are changing into an adult colouration.

They are probably throwbacks to the yellow ancestors. The ancestors of the platinum angelfish were gold coloured angels. The young look normal until they are 3-4 months old and have now started to colour up. The ones you got are going to be yellow like their great great grand parents.

Alternatively one of their parents was gold and the other platinum. And the breeder has sold them all as platinum, but yours are taking after their gold parent.

Did you get them from a local breeder or just a shop?

Unfortunately shops don't have a lot of control over what fish they get sent. They order platinum angels and get sent young fish that look like platinums, but aren't always going to look like a platinum when they mature. The fish you have are nice and healthy so if you don't mind gold angels then keep them. And if you want some more that are platinum colour, perhaps see if the shop can get in slightly bigger fish (similar size to what you have now). That way they should definitely stay the platinum colour. Then get a group of 6-8 and grow them all up together. Let them pair off and put the prs in separate breeding tanks, or leave them all together in one big tank :)
