Hi guys

I replied on a post earlier about fish pecking my fingers when I'm cleaning the glass. This got me thinking if anyone has any advice or can recommend a useful product to help.

I have a juwel trigon 190, and find that the inside of the glass is a bit annoying to clean. With it being quite deep and bow fronted it's difficult to reach everywhere in one go. I've been told that the magnetic glass cleaners don't work so well on bow fronted tanks. Has anyone tried one?

The cleaning kit I brought has the long stick with interchangeable ends, but I find just sticking my arm in the water and scrubbing the glass with a pad is easier. Can anyone recommend a good cleaning kit? Or anyone recommend a decent magnetic cleaner as that would be even easier.

Many thanks

The blue is for glass and the white for acrylic.

Here is where you can buy one for glass in your country.  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/API-Aquarium-Cleaner-Algae-Scraper-for-Glass-Aquariums-/161566247274?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item259e19496a

I am sorry. I can show you what to use, I can show you where to buy it, but I will not come and scrape the algae for you. That you will have to do

with those easy cleaners and magnetic cleaners you're more likely to make scratches in the glass of your tank. This is mostly because you accidentally touch sand which will stick to your cleaner.

Personally do I use an old pass. For example an old credit card. These have a lower chance of damaging the glass of your tank and remove the algae very well.

This looks good with a sturdy handle, but with a 24 inch deep tank I'd still be getting wet, at least i won't be up to my arm pit in water though :) lol

It helps. I am short just under 5'5" (165 cm). I recently set up a 150 gal tank. I am almost swimming in it to get close to touching bottom. Thankfully I have both a long set of tank tongs and that style of algae scrubber. I cannot clean glass algae with it and my long handled multi-head Kent scraper. I also have a short handle Kent which uses the same heads.

Mine is a single handle the above must be the newest style. I have had mine for about 14 years

I've tried so many different algae scrubbers but nothing beats getting your arm in the tank with a pan scourer! I recently got one that had a razor blade slipped into a plastic housing... this has been the best for quickly removing small area's of stubborn algae. I use this a lot ... I have had to throw away the original blade though and I've had to slip in a standard stanley knife type blade instead. It's not as secure but it still does the job

I use a blade in a housing too that I got with my set, but only use it by hand and not with the handle. The problem with a bow front tank is that the attachment on the handles would have to be rotated 90 degrees to use, and have to use a side to side motion to clean properly.

I can imagine it's not easy on curved glass.

Those kent scrapers look really good. I've seen them before and wondered about getting one

Yeah curved glass surely isn't the easiest to clean, my next tank will definitely have straight glass lol.
Hopefully in the next two or three months I'll have my next tank :)

what are you looking to get?
I was looking at the Fluval Roma 240, but a few days ago I wondered upstairs to the aquarium section in my LFS (hadn't been up there before as I hadn't intended to buy another tank till now) and it was like Aladdins cave.

I fell in love with the Eheim Scubaline 240 , and the cabinet that comes with it looks really nice :)

does the 240 refer to litres?

Yes it's litres. They do a 460 too which would be even better, but it would be a miracle if my girlfriend let me have that one lol.
It's not too much bigger in size. The 240 is 120cm x 40cm x 50cm , the 460 is 120cm x 60cm x 60cm I think, but it's pricey.
We have a baby on the way so trying to keep spends down a little, but if I can get zebra pleco to breed in it then it'll pay for itself after a while

I'm just thinking if it refers to the litres (and the size is good) you might be able to hang on to those SAE's rather than re-homing

have you considered looking to see what's available 2nd hand? All of my tanks - bar one (my Rekord 800) have been 2nd hand. There's often a good deal to be had with a 2nd hand tank

Yeah my current tank was second hand. Only a few months old and picked it up for £250 with cabinet. I've finally figured out how to shrink photos enough to use on here so I've set my tank as my profile pic now. I'll get a better photo soon :)
