Betta Fish + Peas

Hello all Betta Lovers!!

I have one simple question to ask, how in the world do you convince or get your Betta to eat a pea? Or at least to try it?

I have a Crowntail Betta fish named Steve, who's black and orange/yellow (I will post a photo).
That was on the first day I got him. Since then, I felt bad since he was in a tiny cup with 20% of it filled with water, so when i brought him home, I accidently overfed him (I felt bad for the little guy cause he seemed as if he didn't eat for days!)
Anyhow, I figured out he's a little bit constipated and wanted to feed him a pea.
My first Betta never got constipated so I never had to feed him a pea.

I cooks the pea in the microwave for 30 seconds, took off the first skin and was left with 2 pieces (sides) of the pea, but even though it sinks to the bottom, Steve takes no interest in it!

Please help, I want him to poop and get back to normal (fit)

Hunger is the best spice. Keep trying to feed him peas, mashing it between your fingers so its small enough to eat.
My betta loved peas, he'll come around.
Be sure to clean up any uneaten peas to avoid excessive waste

So what you're saying is, keep giving him only peas, opposed to his normal food? So pretty much starve him to the point where he will only eat that?
Sounds a little bit mean

Not necesarily. Just keep try and feed him peas whenever. Eventually he'll figure out its food. I didn't mean don't feed him anything at all until he's at starving point
Try this: For three days, try and feed him peas. If still not eating, give hime 2-4 pellets of his normal food.
Repeat until you give up or he eats some

It's like weaning a baby onto solid food, it takes some patience

Okay so i mashed up the peas a little bit, however now my water is extremely cloudy even though I took out the peas since he didn't eat them. Any advice on how to get back my clear water?

Alright I will try that then!! Fingers crossed that this will work!!

Just do a big water change, and your filter should take care of the rest

The thing is, I did a 50% water change this afternoon..... Should I do another one?
Also, my water is still being prepared cause i added that stuff for the chlorine to evaporate.

Uh...chlorine doesn't evaporate..it doesn't work like that.


You add dechlorinator to the water, and it binds to the chlorine, neutralizing it. It can be added immediatley.

What dechlorinator are you using?

Oh, then the people at the store mis-informed me!!
I use "Big Als' multi-purpoe aquarium water conditioner"

Yup, that dechlorinator works fine. There's no need to let it evaporate, just wait maybe 15 seconds before adding the water
If you don't want to do a water change, just use a turkey baster to suck of the pea particles
