I'm new to the forum and pretty new to the whole fish thing. I have two dwarf gouramis in my tank. Up until now they've both been ok......until today. One of them is not looking too perky. Its swimming around close to the side of the tank and not really moving at all. It's got a very swollen stomach. My first instinct was 'pregnant' until I read that they don't get pregnant as such. I've also read that fish can get constipated :S

I don't know what to do really.

this is a photo of the poorly fishy :(

what are the ammonia & nitrite readings from your tank water?

what size tank is it?

are both the gourami the same colours? Have you seen them chasing each other?

Thanks for viewing. Ammonia was fine. Nitrate was a liitle high. They were both males.

that tank looks like a Biube?

2 males in any tank (particularly one of that size) is not recommended - they will inevitably fight and usually to the death. So, it may have been fighting.....or it may have been yet another fragile DG going bottom up for any number of other reasons. They are not the greatest in terms of robustness.

I hadn't seen them fighting. Perhaps, like you said, just another fragile one. Oh well :(

The tanks a biorb life. 30L

Some actual numbers on ammonia, nitrite and nitrate would be useful though, not just fine / high.

Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0.5
Nitrate 10
Nitrite might have caused an oxygen deficiency in his blood. Needs urgent water change.
Nitrite must be 0. Filter might not be coping right or is not yet cycled.
Also chlorine salt would help with restoring his blood to normal. Aquarium salt may be used.
