It took my discus about a week before they even touched any food after being put in, so give them time - dont pollute your tank. But when you want to try, try with frozen bloodworms - they are good for getting discus feeding IMO.

Make sure they can hide, or it will just stress them out more being scared with nowhere to run. I put in some big leaved plants for the first week (also helps process the waste!). I ditched them later on, but gave the discus somewhere to go (although i could still see them :p)

+1 :good:

and would love to see some pics if you can get any

Thanks for that i know they can be finiky so hopefully they will be ok is the tank big enough for three ?

Surprised no one has bought this up already, but 3 Discus in a tank this size is asking for trouble, they grow to the size of plates and should ideally be in groups of at least 6, the tank isn't big enough.

I am sure gillicous will catch the discus bug and soon get a bigger tank and add more.... it took me 12 months to move from one 90l tank, to having a 360l, a 90l, a 70l and 2 120l lol

They're lovely :)
Standbysetting is right, but they will be fine at the moment, in future you will need a bigger tank and also more discus to spread the aggression.:good:

I don't know why it has put this on here 2.....

they look like decent fish with nice shape and colours. can i ask how long you have had them and what maintanence/water changing routine you are going to follow?

ive had them 2 days and do a 25%water change once a week never had discus before so a bit aprehensive about it
my neighbour breeds discus he gave me these because he needed the tank space to breed again
so will be able to have as many as i want in the future

If your tank is fully cycled, and your filter was ready for the discus, then i am sure you could get away with that. But i added 4 to my 360L, and i had to do daily 50% water changes for the first week until my filter was able to deal with the amount of waste being produced - Discus poops are huge!

Now i do a 50% water change every Sunday. I have yet to have any problems.

Water changes is a personal thing. People will tell you different things all the time. What works for you is best. But what i was told is that having a constant stream of new water is better than large changes, say once every 2 weeks.

So a mix of practicality and logic from above, i adopted 50% each week. I make sure the water is the same temp, but i know the PH is different. This has not bothered the discus thought.

Hope this helps

with discus that young you need to be feeding them at least 4 times a day and doing 50% daily water changes for them to reach their full potential. i dont think 25% a week will be enough. are you in the uk? what water do you use? and are they any other tankmates.

also with you only having 3 you may find that 2 of them pick on the other. ideally they need to be in groups of 5+ to spread any aggression. if you find they stay skittish adding more will help but obviously you havent the space now but if you get the discus bug that will soon change.

also looking at your photo your tank looks full of gravel and plants. this maybe problematic as it is harder to keep as clean as some discus need.

half the battle with discus is starting with good quality stock. although yours dont look bad time will tell if they are healthy enough. i learnt the hard way; bought 4 discus from a local breeder had nothing but problems as they were poor quality then when i got my new ones had no problems at all as they were far superior quality!!!
