Hi everyone.

Recently I have been trawling the Internet for 3D backgrounds and decided that the juwel designed are simply not effective enough. While I've been searching I have found a few different videos on YouTube of homemade styrofoam backgrounds which are much more effective than the regular juwel ones.

I'm just wondering if anyone here had tried and succeeded with making there own styrofoam 3D background.

Regards
Scott

well from my vivarium making experience, I personally worked with mostly "Right Stuff" sprayable expanding foam. I know the guys who made the background out of foam sheeting, then covered it with a sealant like a cement or epoxy kinda stuff and then to find a kind of safe paint, and then to soak it and remove any toxins and make it inert. it takes alot of work but can turn out great. its worth it if u like a challenge!

I'm going to give it a shot. I don't mind a challenge. Once I start I might make a how to with step by step photos.

A good place to look as posion frogs forums, alot of frog keepers make them from foam, clay cat litter etc as there very good for planting broms in so the frogs can climb and spawn in :good:

1 inch pink insulation board, kiln dried sand and epoxy resin.

did mine a while ago and looks ok

Any pictures of your tank mate. I am going to give it a shot. I picked up the paint for the sides and rear of my tank today. Just to add that little extra darkness to the caves I plan on having
