I saw a white spot ont he glass. Looked up close and it's a snail, ever so tiny. It must have been in there when I got the tank as he had live plants and I don't.

It disappeared off into the gravel, should I get rid of it next time it appears? I wanted a snail but one that doesn't breed like crazy. My friend became full of snails that would plaster his tank at night and I don't want that.

Get rid of it now! If you are even slighty leniant on them they will breed like mad. Chances are that you have many more lurking around in the gravel or round the back of the tank so you'd better get moving before they start their invasion! What shape was its shell? Was it pointed like this:

or rounded like this:

Not that it really matters, they both breed like mad.

Good luck with dealing with them

It didn't even have a shell yet but I saw it's tiny body and tenticals. Defo a snail. I'll get it next time I see it. My friend has the long pointy ones and has a big tank and at night they cover all the glass.

lets just hope I can find it again, never seen it before last night and it looked like it was eating algae on the glass then went off back under the gravel.

These guys are common and harmless. Alot of people like them in there tank, You could get something to eat them up. As if you saw one, Chances are there is alot more lurking in dark corners.

Put a piece of weighted down lettuce or cucumber in the tank last thing at night, marie. When you get up in the morning take it out and you should find the snails stuck to it :)

They're a good indicator species, keep them in your tank, they'll munch on algae and most will eat detritus, if you have a massive boom in snail population to the extent where you can see them wherever you look then you're over feeding or you have a lot of rotting matter in the tank.

Really? I'll do that tonight. I suppose the things won't live if I put them in the garden will they? But no way am I ending up like my friend with a tank full lol

I'm afraid they won't live in the garden, no
The lettuce or cucumber will attract them ;some people like snails, some people don't...

Well I wanted one Tiger Nerite as that doesn't breed easily or on it's own. But I don't want loads in there. I just saw either the same one or another and tried to get it but it got away and I can't find it now. I'll do the cucumber thing.

I'm still getting loads of baby snails. I must have taken out 20+ so now I have the cucumber sitting int he fridge ready for tonight. I'm gonna pop a bit at the bottom to hopefully attract them so I can get rid of some more. It won't harm my fish will it if they eat a bit? Also I have a zebra nerite snail but if he goeson it I'll just take him off in the morning.

i purposely put in 12 MTS snails in my new tank 2 months ago and barely see any. I think the lack of overfeeding keeps them in check quite well. If I look in my tank at any given time I might see 3. I can def live with that, and they keep my sand aerated! i think they are great.

just my 2 cents.

Yeah but I don't want them breeding and breding like these ones do and then having them everywhere. I have a snail that doesn't breed and would have more of them.
