saw some great looking and sized cuckoos at lfs today but was wondering if they would be compatable with smaller fish like otos and cardinal/rummynose tetras?
im currently looking for a cat that will suit a 240L 4ft tank that will be ok with my stocking....
also are the cuckoos out and about or do they just hide all day?

They will be fine withe tetra but im not to sure about the ottos. They are quite active so you will see them a fair amount in the day. They do need a ph of 7.5+ but 8+ is best.

A small group of the usually placid Synodontis nigriventris might work better for your community, plus you might get to see them in the daylight (many Synodontis are "night owls").

For something extremely peaceful and an amazing schooler, how about a 9+ group of Pareutropius buffei?

Hiya I just sold a large synodontis which looked like one of these... I think he was a hybrid between two types to be honest!

I had him with other synodontis, livebeares, sucking loaches, red tailed shark, corys, kribensis... all sorts over the time he was in there!
I never had any problems with him, sad to see him go but sold him to a guy with a 4ft tank so he could have plenty of space as he grew up big in my 125 litre fluval.

I think he'd be fine!

I've attatched a photo... the background looks moggy because I had just added the sand substrate (changed from gravel)

so would a single specimin not be good?

also what the going price for these? they were on at £20 each which i thought was a bit pricey but they were a decent size of about 3 inch at least...

Whats your PH?
The price dependence on whether there
Synodontis lucipinnis

or

Synodontis petricola

Alot of shops get them mixed up. If there petricola thats a good price but if there lucipinnis then there worth about £5.

sorry mate not really feeling those species to be honest... i just fancied a single cat that doesnt get too big and wont eat my otos and tetras. also 1 that i would see now and then would be nice too

synodontis brichardi are amazing little syno's i have one its not aggressive not overly confident with the lights on but you just construct some sort of slate structure for them and they slowly become a bit more confident.
