Hi, just thought I would post a pic of my small FW tank at work as I will be stripping this down at the weekend. I am going to be setting it up as a tank for a coupel of shellies.

There is a bit of black hair algae at the moment but all the parameters are good.

If anyone wants the plants they can collect from my office on Saturday, Sunday or Monday afternoon (London SE1), otherwise they will be going in the bin as the tank that the fish are going into is already well planted. I could probably post the plants but I wouldn't want to guarantee that they will survive due to the bank holiday.

If you look carefully you can just about see my SW tank at the other end of my desk just behind the laptop :)

Cheers, Eddie

I'd be happy to take some of those plants, if you still have them available. I am setting up a planted tank and need some anyway.

I think they would be fine to post. Even over the bank holiday, just wrap them in plastic bags (as air tight as poss) so they keep moist. Maybe have card on either side of them or bubble wrap for protection.

If you have any left and are willing to send them to me I can send you postage costs by PayPal if you like?

:)

It must be nce to have tanks at your desk. I thnk I'd get distracted though, I'm bad enough when trying to work at home!! lol

The floating lily pad type is Hydrocotyle leucocephala which is just floating in the tank, it is not planted at all. You can plant it and it will grow up to the light and spread out but I prefer it as just floating. I will be transferring some of this to a tank at home as it grows fast.

I cannot find my planting scheme for this tank so I can't be 100% certain what the others are - it may even have been a 'mixed lot' of plants.

I think the grass type of plant covering the bottom is Sagittaria subulata and the taller plants are Hygrophila polysperma. There are two Cladophora in there as well - I might keep one of these.

Looks like MISS Cheese Specialist is getting some free plants next week....

Cheers, Eddie

are you gonna have all the plants cheese specialist?

if your not..i wouldn't mind having a few...im not to sure how id pay but i could sort something out :)

I'll bag the lot up (I'll separate them by type) and send them up. I'll only need to keep a small amount of the Hydrocoytle as it grows fast (and eats up nitrates!).

I have previously supplied cuttings from this to about half a dozen people on here - and still had to bin large chunks of it. I reckon you will be able to grow enough to cover the surface of all your tanks in a few months :hyper:

Split 50/50 with DevilsAdvocate?

Cheers, Eddie

Right - thats all the plants allocated. Sorry if anyone else wanted them but you needed to get in quick to beat C.S. and D.A.

Cheers, Eddie

Stripped the tank down yesterday (Cheese Specialist & DevilsAdvocate - plants will be posted today).

Here is the new setup - sorry about the reflections, can't really switch the lights off in the office to get a better pic.

Fish are due for delivery from Tri-Mar tomorrow!!!! Also waiting for the LFS to get some more smaller pieces of purple slate in....

Cheers, Eddie

(From the 1st post picture) What are those grass-like bunches that are rooted in the substrate?

You rely on a different type of beneficial bacteria with saltwater do you not? if so wont your tank need to cycle as the FW bacteria dies off and the SW bacteria grows?

I.B.B.

The grass like one is Sagittaria subulata (I think). I planted a few small clumps of this at various places and it gradually spread out across the base of the tank.

When I stripped the tank out I found that they were connected together by a series of roots reaching across most of the base of the tank. THe plants sperated up nicely though so it looks like a good plant to provide ground cover.

HTH, Eddie
