Yesterday I went to a newly renovated Walmart in a nearby town and thought I would check out their pets department. They had a new tank set up with IMO, a very poorly designed betta display. It was just a couple of shelves that the containers fit into. You couldn't see the fish in the back without taking out the ones in the front and moving them around. There were a few dead ones but I liked the looks of these two and decided to take them home with me.
Since this purchase was totally unexpected, they are temporarily being kept in the specimen containers I usually use to hatch cory eggs in. They are in one of my few heated tanks and will remain there, with daily water changes, until I can set up individual tanks for them.
They were hungry and devoured the blackworms I fed them with. The dark one gobbled them up right away, but it took a little longer for the lighter one to figure out that they are easier to eat if you start at the end, rather than the middle.
They are in a little rough shape with somewhat ripped fins and tails, but not too bad. So far they do not seem sick compared to some of the others that were being offered.
Here they are the way I bought them:
The dark one:
Here he is posing. It was a lucky shot.
Here's the light one:
He gave me a nice pose too.
Thanks for looking at my new boys.
