Yesterday I went to a newly renovated Walmart in a nearby town and thought I would check out their pets department. They had a new tank set up with IMO, a very poorly designed betta display. It was just a couple of shelves that the containers fit into. You couldn't see the fish in the back without taking out the ones in the front and moving them around. There were a few dead ones but I liked the looks of these two and decided to take them home with me.

Since this purchase was totally unexpected, they are temporarily being kept in the specimen containers I usually use to hatch cory eggs in. They are in one of my few heated tanks and will remain there, with daily water changes, until I can set up individual tanks for them.

They were hungry and devoured the blackworms I fed them with. The dark one gobbled them up right away, but it took a little longer for the lighter one to figure out that they are easier to eat if you start at the end, rather than the middle.

They are in a little rough shape with somewhat ripped fins and tails, but not too bad. So far they do not seem sick compared to some of the others that were being offered.

Here they are the way I bought them:

Here he is posing. It was a lucky shot.

The light one looks a lot like "Lotus" - I can't remember his owner though - she's on here.

Ohhhh! They're nice! ^^;

Well, it's better than having to wait a couple weeks to actually *set up* everything for your fish.... DX I had seen this one *really* gorgeous dark double-tail Betta at Big Al's a few weeks ago; I couldn't go for a little while, so a couple days ago I went to see if I could still get him.... Well, he was gone. DX And, besides, none of the others *really* caught my fancy.... :lol: ^^;

oh beautiful :)

I miss unplanned purchases =[ primarily because i cant find bettas anywhere right now =[

Thank you for the comments. If anyone has any suggestions for names, I'd be happy to consider them. :D

Very Nice, Like the Orange Dalmation the best

they are both gorgeous Inchworm, congrats on the new purchases and poor things are lucky to have ended up with a caring owner. Best of luck with them I am sure names will come with time lol. What sort of things are you into ;)

i hate it when you get poorly cared for fish though, makes you wanna take them all!

Yes, it was a hard choice. I was torn between picking these, which appeared to be still in pretty good shape, or getting one that might or might not recover. I think I made the right decision. These two have perked up considerably. I have two guppies in the tank and the lighter one flares up whenever they come to the side of his container. Maybe I'll move them to another tank. The darker one isn't as active but still seems to be OK.

Thanks for telling me what color that one is, Gill. He's my favorite too. :D
