Is it possible to enlarge the pic to get a better look at the lump.
Is the lump smooth looking.
Does the lump resemble a cauliflower.
Does the lump look hard or soft filled with fluid or puss.

it is probably possible to enlarge but im a computer thicko lol. thats about the best pic my camera will get.

the lump is smooth probably about 2 mm in size kind of opaque white . almost looks like it could be squeezed like a spot

Lumps on the fins that are white and smooth can be lymthocystis.
Is it possible to issolate the fish.
All you can do is try a bacterial med if the lump bacterial.

not possible to isolate im afraid.. so will have to treat whole tank  is there a risk of it spreading to other fish?

Yes if the lump burst and its lymthocystis it can infect other fish. Also bacterial lumps can infect other fish if its bursts.
Get you some info.

This is a pic of a fish with lymthhocystis.

Lymphocystis
Info taken from here.

http://www.fish-disease.net/diseases.htm

Symptoms:

Fish infected with Lymphocystis will present with clusters of whitish, berry-like growths on the skin and fins. These "clusters" may resemble small clutches of eggs or cauliflower (hence, it is sometimes called Cauliflower Disease). They will be clearly visible and may even become extremely large. This disease often affects the fins first.

Cause:

Viral infection. The virus will eventually kill the fish if it is unable to mount a strong enough immune response as the virus rampages through the fish’s tissues, destroying its cells.

Treatment:

As with all viral infections, there is no suitable cure or efficacious treatment; however Quick Cure claims to be helpful. I have also heard of people who trim the fish's fins, followed by several baths in Malachite Green. Fortunately, this disease is uncommon and in some cases, infected fish are able to recover quickly without treatment.

Lymphocystis is highly infectious. When infected cells from the fish’s skin or fins burst the virus is spread throughout the aquarium and can remain contagious for periods of up to two months. Fish not showing symptoms should be removed from the aquarium and placed in quarantine, away from other fish, for at least 60 days. Note, remove uninfected fish, not the other way around because the aquarium has become contaminated. The infected aquarium should be emptied and thoroughly disinfected before returning any fish to it. Do not use soap to clean the aquarium.

have gogled lymphocystis and it doesnt sound like that. theres no other symptoms he is sprightly up to his usual antics still a greedy little bugger. just seems like hes almost got a spot

I would go in with a bacterial med then.

can you reccomend a good 1 i will get it in the morning. i hope its not lymphocystis as reading all the info in that reply has me worried. this isnt any old fish this is vinny .

Just had to check it wasn't lymthocystis. Wouldn't worry to much. As lymthocystis usually starts on the fins of a fish.
Lumps and bumps that suddenly appear are usually bacterial. Any redness to the lump/
Does the lump move.
Anti internal bacteria med by interpet.

A link to unknown lumps and bumps.
