Compared to that guppy, i'd have to say its not an oto. looks like a chinese algae eater to me too.

CAE are the aggressive ones that will grow large give up eating algae and become aggressive. The otos and SAE are the nice ones.

My chinese algae eater isn't aggressive at all...As long as mine is well fed and has places to hide he doesn't bother anyone. He is about half grown and I have never seen him chase a fish. I'm lucky. :dunno:

(He still eats algae and joins the crowd for shrimp pellets and algae wafers. ;) )

How big is he? They tend to have a pretty sudden change of character when they reach a certain size.

They will get bigger, you seem to have been lucky though if it isn't showing any signs of aggression yet. The ones I kept I while back all went mental at about 4-6". Attacked loads of fish so I got rid of them ASAP, up until then they were good algae eaters that I used to keep some tanks algae down.

Uh oh. Cause my 2 CAE are like 5 inches!!! I don't know if they are eating algae anymore either, because I see little black tufts of algae on the side of the glass. (and yes it's algae, I have it in my other tanks too) Plus one of my really old pristella tetras has a big wound in his side, apparently it punctured (or whatever) his swim bladder, because he looks like a bottom feeder trying to swim on the top. But I'm not sure this is because of the CAE, it's basically a slit.
Well, gotta go,
Robin
