I use 'King British - Whitespot treatment' which does the trick also. (Clown Loaches had it cleared in a day)

>>Have used 'Melafix' to repair damaged fins/scale damage on my Angels + others in past, but I realised that they heal v.quickly in clean water anyway. (It smells nice though; eucalyptus mmmm!)

it does smell very nice i always have a sniff lol when i use them i know the bubbles or alot finer aswell better for the fish ,ive got alot more hanky panky going on in the tank to since useing that stuff its great dead worth the money

I can certainly say the products are great but there is no way it cleared whitespot in 2 hours.

1. how can you be sure it cleared the whitespot in 2 hours?

2. if you mean there was spots on the fish then 2 hours later there wasnt, thats not cured, thats simply the 1 stage of the whitespots cycle, you have to treat when the spots fall off and continue treating for at least a week to be sure of ridding the whitespot.

3. Ick is a microscopic parasite with a life cycle, that does not happen in 2 hours

White spots on the fish is the only stage visible to naked eye.

After infecting the fish, the adult organism falls off into the gravel and becomes encysted in a free-living dormant stage known as a Tomont. THIS CYST STAGE IS INVULNERABLE TO MEDICATIONS

Depending on the water temperature, the encysted stage will take from several hours to several days to divide into 200-800 larvae, called Theronts. These must find a host fish within a short window of time or die. They usually infest fish when they scratch against the gravel, continuing the cycle of disease. Usually, all 3 stages will be present within the same tank, but the larval Theront stage is the one that medications and treatments really target.

Chris and Marie, your anecdotal evidence is very nice but many of us have similar evidence that it's not needed. I use absolutely nothing but dechlorinator and ever since I started that regime the fish are happier and less stressed than they were when I was using treatments. Since I started again in the hobby about 4 years ago, I have used nothing but isolating new fish to avoid disease in my tanks. In my former time in the hobby I treated routinely as you are doing and always thought it was good that my fish healed quickly but the fact that anything existed that needed healing shouls have been the red flag for me.
I now use water changes to keep things clean and avoid overfeeding, also to keep things clean. There is no white spot and no fungus type problems. The fish are healthy and reproduce at the drop of a hat. Even in the isolation tank, disease is a very rare happening. A well targeted salt treatment for some bettas that showed up from the shop with white spot cured them in a week. It is the only treatment I have given anything in 4 years. Fish normally get no treatment in the isolation tank. I use the tank as a means to keep diseases out of the main tank, not as a place to dose new fish with a spectrum of medications as I have seen some people do.

not all of it but they started to notice it going im not joking either even my husband was shocked how quick it worked

How are you determing that its going?

Just because the spots off the fish are going does not mean its clearing up, this is just the start of whitespot, (read my last post properly.)
