The attached photo indicates the extent of my problem... reduced surface area.... reduced oxygen exchange, but yet, beneath all of that, are around 8 000 guppies...This aggravates the problem, because if I merely try to scoop it off, each scoop takes about 50 guppy fry with it.

How do I get rid of this mess.... (Duckweed - I hate it) - Cannot even dare use a net from this tank in another otherwise they also get infected.

What season is this for you down there? I find Duckweed more prolific in the Winter months (Dry season) in Miami, FL, for some reason. What other types of vegetation do you have in there? So far, removal by hand has worked best for me, but for you, this may be a tedious process in order to preserve the guppy fry.

We are entering winter now, but it is a heated pond and stays around 25 Deg C. right through the winter and on average 27 in summer.. (I have 4kW geyser elements in there with thermostat)... The problem persists 365/365. I often remove by hand and accept that I'm gonna loose some fry to the extent that I think I've removed all traces, but a week later, Its the same ol' story.

could you get a net (that stops herons) with large holes in it then drop that in the water and when you pick it up the fry will fall though the large holes?

Increase water movement near the surface with a powerhead and it will blow all the duckweed in every direction

In a desperate effort of finally getting rid of this, and probably 100's of guppies in the process, I've moved 4 x 7" comet goldfish into this pond and also 4 into my molly pond to see if it helps, as the lot that I scoop off weekly is thrown into the goldfish pond and it does not seem to last for long in there..... They'll probably eat a lot of the guppy and molly fry in the process, but I'm desperate to get rid of this duckweed for good.
