Hi

I have just bought four Otocinclus from my lfs and I'm worried that they have sold me the wrong fish. These are approx 1" in length (ex tail fin) .

I was after four small ottos that won't grow larger than 2-3 inches.

They sold me these, (see phot) yet they seem to look like Chinese Algae Eaters which can be agressive and out-grow my tank.

Can anyone please confirm which species they are?

Thanks in advance!

Yep the picture is of a couple of chinese algae eaters and definitely not otocinclus catfish. Take them back and find yourself another fish shop.

check this link to see an otocinclus, first image top left corner.

Thanks for advice :)

I phoned them today and they will allow me to take them back next week. Thank god! They grow huge, one's too small for my 30 gal tank. It's a shame because they are crazy liitle fish.

regards P

Can anyone give me any ideas on the best way to catch these four Chinese Algae Eaters, they are too fast, my net swishing around in the water is stressing the other fish, and me!

I'm so f'ing peeved off, not only did my lfs sell me the wrong fish, one of them has a white spot on its dorsal fin and a growth on its nose, which has got bigger in the last two days.

So now I'm worried my other fish will be infected.

ps, the fish with the growth oin its nose is actually on the photo, you can just bearly see it, also notice the white dot on its fin.

Take out everything they can get under, then corner them with one net and use the other to catch them with :good:

CAE's are super hard to catch, i agree, take out all the decor you can, anything that's going to get in the way, grab a chair and be patient!
