Shay's Tank... 15g Bowfront...

This is what her tank looks like now.
I guess I will be getting most of her plants soon. Unless she changes her mind... She has decided she wants to go back to plastic.

I don't get it. Her plants always grow so well. Hers always does better than mine. She is really good with them, but she doesn't want to keep them. I guess it is too easy for her. She has gotten bored with it. She wants something different. (horrible... bright... plastic... & tacky ornaments!)

She will be 5 the 18th of this month. I let her pick out some new things for her tank. I figure it is hers. I guess we will see how it turns out when she decides she is ready to get it changed out. She wants to go through the old stuff we have. There is something she is looking for, but I'm not sure what it is she is after. I will find out when she finds it I guess. She tells me it is the thing with the holes in it... Well... that is really helpful...

Thanks for looking. :good:

She did keep the star grass (behind the clam and ship) and the moss ball (in front), but the rest are gone. She loves the new look, and I think she has lost her mind.

The light changes from blue to pink and every shade in between. The light does look kind of cool at night. I will give her that one. As for the rest... I am just not going to say... Maybe it will grow on me. (and maybe not)

Thanks for looking. :good:

The varigated plant next to the big pink thing is a non-aquatic. I'd tell you what it is, but I've temporarily lost my sight due to the overwhelming brightness of Shay's new scape. She's definitely gone in a new direction. Is that the stargrass I sent? It looks great, really perked up.

llj

I think the varigated plant is plastic.

Interesting choice of plants, I must say.

Yes... llj. That is the star grass you sent. It looked awesome before the rescape. It got broken up a lot during the rescape so it will need some time to recover. A few of the plants you sent made it into each of my tanks. You should recognize things in them all. :hyper:
The only thing that didn't make it was the stem one with the really small leaves. (the one I wanted the most...) I can't remember what it was called. (hm or something)

The star grass and the moss ball is the only thing that isn't plastic/silk.

I know what you mean about the colors... You can see her tank all the way down the hall!
You can't see it from the livingroom though. :hey:

Thanks for looking. (sorry if it did damage to your eyes... )

Wow, Amanda... I just now read the entire thread. What interesting and impressive changes have happened to that tank! And Shay looks so much bigger; she's very pretty. I have to say that I have always been impressed with Odyssea tanks (which is why I bought it in the first place). Something about their entire system and especially their lighting... I have always heard great stories about their lighting and yours is one more added to the list! Apparently their "saltwater" lighting makes alot of freshwater plants happy --- I guess.

Either way, congrats on all the success and fun with that 15g. :good:

:X Don't even try to use those lights with fresh water plants! The only thing that light it had in it grew was green water! We couln't even find the fish! I tried everything, but nothing worked until I changed out the light. It now runs fresh water daylight cf for nano cubes.

This tank has gone through a lot of changes. I really hated to see her get rid of most of the plants though. She did so well with them. The anubias that she took out is blooming. I have never gotten one to bloom! I have the good substrate and ferts and everything... she had plain gravel and never added any ferts of any kind. The only thing she ever added to the tank was prime at water changes. (which was only about once a month) I think fact that she keeps about 10 times the number of fish that "fits" in there had something to do with not needing ferts.

She will have to do a lot more maintenance now with the silk and plastic decor. She is already getting algae here and there. She is sick right now so she hasn't noticed yet. She is going to be livid when she does notice it though.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and post. :good:

By the way... She is 5 today. (Well... yesterday since it is after midnight.) She didn't get to have her party because of being sick and running fever. I really hate that. She is missing all of the fun stuff at school too.

We've all been through the garish stage with our tanks, better to get it out of the way now ;)

And to be perfectly honest, if thats what she wants and makes her happy who am I to says its 'wrong' good luck to her, I hope it brings are lots of pleasure and enjoyment :)

Wish her well from me, hope she feeling better soon.

Sam

Wish her well from me

PS - just realised how daft that will sound -> some bloke who Ive never met but chat to about fish and plants on a world wide forum on the internet (a concept thats very strange all on its own) hopes you get better soon.

Even though we have never met....
You are all considered friends and some I could even say are like (adopted) family. lol

Shay is getting better now, and Luke (my son) and I are really sick now.

Shay is already starting to miss some of her plants... :shifty:
I figure by mid year she will be fully planted again. She loves watching things grow too much to stay fake too long.

Thanks everyone. :good:

Hey all! I just thought I would let you know...
I have a tank that I throw cuttings and such in...

A few pieces when missing the other day. Guess where I found them... :shifty:

:D
It is happening much sooner than I figured it would! She hasn't mentioned it to me yet. I am just waiting to see what she is going to do next. :D

Ha. Actually I meant the lighting system, not the bulb. Hope you all get well soon. And a belated happy birthday to Shay! :bday:

P.S. Thanks again for your patience on waiting on me to get that tank over to you.

No problem. I wasn't in a big hurry. I do hope to get it soon though.
The lighting system is good, but I wish it were a little more to the back so all the plants in the back wouldn't bend toward the front of the tank trying to get to the light. The ones in the very back don't get as much light as they really should. It takes a little creative planting to make it really work. Shay doesn't appear to have a problem with it though. She is very good with a planted tank. I have learned a lot from her. She makes it look so easy.
