Looks like fin rot and it is easily treatable.
1.What are the water parameters?
2.What size tank is the fish in?
3.What tankmates?

tankmates- 1 bottom catfish (hees fine)
size - around 3 gal
and not sure about parament

Definatly fin rot. It can be treated with medicine from your lfs and I don't think it's contagious. Hope you get him cured!

Your betta has fin rot. You will need a bacterial medication to treat him. Your LFS will have the medications you should need. :good:
Be sure to be precise with his medications as this will help him heal faster. Also the quicker you get him treated the sooner is tail will stop disappearing.

I guess its a cory and yea you should have more but you cant fit any anyway im guessing what you mean by "hes fine" but thats for another time. You need to have a test kit. You need to medicate for fin rot, however, in the future it can be prevented most of the time by good water quality. Next time you notice any frayed edges do a large water change. Also do a large wc before treating.
Haley-actually some finrot can/is caused by bacteria which is potentially contagious. Like I said regular water changes and good water quality should prevent fin rot and cure any minor damage. I find treatment is only necessary when the fishes fins look as bad as the OP.

Edit-Be careful treating with your bottom catfish, this is where it would be nice if you were to actually list the type of fish. Corys have different kind of "scales" (which I believe arent scales at all, actually bony plates). This makes them more sensitive to certain medications. A lot of catfish in general actually are more sensitive to medications than other fish.

Just to add on to the above.

Dont use salt, or anything containing salt, most catfish do not tolerate it well. And also be very careful about how much medication you use, bettas can be quite sensitive to antibacterial meds such as melafix, or bettafix; a diluted cousin product. If your tank does not have filtration, or at the very least an airstone (as it should already have to begin with), add one before administering the medication.

Good luck. :good:
