I have found a 8gal tank very cheap at £10 so i thought i Would have ago at making a planted tank for little fish neons etc.
What i want the stats to be:

Size :8 Gal Rectagle 18x10
Lighting: Unsure at this moment
Substrate :Black sand and blue gravel
Hardscape: thinking of Bog wood centre Piece and maybe some rocks along the back
Plants:Vallis along the back of the tank and smaller ones closer to the front and moss on the bog wood
Fish: Neons etc.
Co2: undecided whether to use it what would you say,

I have orderd a new hood since this one was plastic and very flimsy, wouldnt hold a light. This is the sight i have orderd it off http://www.edkins.com/acatalog/Aquarium_Hoods.html
here is a pic of the tank

I will keep updating with new pictures through the steps of making the planted tank

There we go, that should be better. It was giving me a headache too. I'm not too keen on blue gravel in a planted tank, but it's your tank. Most of us here tend to gravitate towards more natural-looking substrates. The tank has an interesting footpring, it may be difficult to find a fixture that'll fit well.
