What In The World Is This?

just saw this in my male plakats tank. wasnt there last night and is now. the tank is new and so is the gravel. the ornament was in another tank but it had been boiled before being put in the tank. where could this have come from. has only been occupied for a day and a half. they look like furry transparent mushrooms all over the ornament.

is it fungus?? already in there??

have just taken him out and i have noticed it is all over the gravel as well :blink:

Have you tried touching it? What does it feel like? Slimy?

I would clean everything out and try using it again. Is there only one fish in the conatiner? How much do you feed??

I have that same stuff in my tank, except on a piece of wood. It is an algal bloom. No idea what type. Mine grew over the course of 2 days and there isn't as much of it as in your tank.

The aquarium people assured me it would be harmless to fish as it is just a plant.

I am no expert though, because I've only had my tank a month and I can't seem to keep any fish alive. =(

he definitely is the only MALE fighter fish in a 3gallon tank gets fed 3-4 bloodworms in the morning and about 5-6 betta bio gold pellets at night.

I have that same stuff in my tank, except on a piece of wood. It is an algal bloom. No idea what type. Mine grew over the course of 2 days and there isn't as much of it as in your tank.

im not sure how harmless it is cause today my little plakat is very pale and lethargic. i took everything put of the tank yesterday, cleaned the inside with hot water and put him back in in a bare tank with some ketapang (sea almond or almond oil is another term for it) and a little melafix.

jozlyn - dont know what it felt like cause when i tried to touch it it just broke down.

It sounds like it's just something that occured because it was a new system. Now that you have done the water change, everything should be alright. Keep us posted on how your fish has been after you did the second cleaning.

It must be from something in the gravel, can't be from the ornament as you boiled that. Maybe you could boil the gravel, or steralise it with some baby bottle/dummy steralising solution such as Miltons.
