I have recently joined this site for info on setting up a marine tank as i feel actually talking to poeple that run them is much more informative than just reading.

Here are the tanks I have just now.

4 ft in living room
2x 7 inch goldfish ( rescues)
2x 6 inch firemouth chiclids ( also rescues as babies)
2x golden barbs ( also rescues )
and my baby boy the pleco who is 9 inches

another pic of the sea monsters as I call them ....lol

three ft in my bedroom

all goldfish that were casualties of my daughters biorb ( grew too big )

and again

hexagonal tank in kitchen not sure of volume.
2x dwarf gouramies
2x mad male guppies
5x neon tetras
50 million conical snails

last but not least my daughters 30litre biorb

4x neon tetras
2x baby firemouths (also rescues)

Nice pics and nice fish... but I'm sorry, I've got to say... Goldfish with firemouth cichlids? are you crazy? my firemouths used to eat rosy feeders, they're agressive beyond belief IME... Aslo, goldfish should be in a tank with no heater... you're weakening their immune systems by having them in a tank with a heater, also this is shortening their life spans...

I know the big tank breaks all the rules of fish keeping ....BUT.....it works !!!!
The two goldfish have always been kept in a heated tank and they are not doing too bad for being 14 years old so far.
I keep it at a steady 68 degrees and everybody is thriving.

The firemouths were rescued about 6 years ago when i went to pick up a tank somebody was selling, it only had about 6 inches of water in the bottom nad had no heating or filtration....was completely green with alge as well, it was lying in a garage forgotton.

I FOUND the firemouths as babies hiding in a tunnel in the bottom of the tank, weak and half dead and because i had no other tank to put them in when i got the home i put them in with the goldfish. I have never looked back and they all have their own space in the tank.

They all went into the big tank last year ( santa was good to me ) and as of yet ( touch wood ) not one of them has ever been ill in all the years i have had them and they are just growing and growing.

I know the tank breaks all the rules of fish keeping but i would NEVER do anything to hurt them and am over cautious when it comes to them, making sure they have everything they need.

These fish have amazed me and a lot of other people as I had to transport them from northampton to thurso ( a journey of over 600 miles ) 2 years ago when i moved and they survived 16 hours in bags in the back of a removals van.

I thought I had better explain about the baby firemouths in my daughters biorb before i upset anybody (
They were bought by a friend of mine about a month ago from our local pets at home, they were sold as suitable for a 60 litre biorb and when she discovered they were NOT !!! she was going to flush them away. Pets at Home sold her the 60 litre and then 30 fish to put in it ?????
No places for anybody to hide......

I could not put them in my big tank or the one in the kitchen so i bought a lot of fresh plants and put them in her biorb.

I know its not a suitable place for them and they will grow but it was better than seeing them flushed !!!!

They will be going into a bigger tank but not until later in the year.
