Hi All. I have 3 fish which all look sick in some way I was wondering if anyone could offer me some advice please.

A Platy has some sort of white colouring on her side - I don't think it looks fluffy it looks kind of more like a white shimmer. I treated the tank with Esha 2000 but it hasn't helped - any other suggestions?

I also have a lemon tetra with a whiteish mark above it's upper lip - it's been like it a little while and has been through two treatments of Esha 2000. It doesn't seem to be hindering his ability to eat though.

Yesterday another tetra has swelled up quite dramatically and looks quite sore and pinkish in the inside. We had another one a couple of months ago which swelled up alot and over a couple of days got so bad we euthanised him. I did feed them a pea yesterday but the swelled up one didn't eat any of it. I fed them some frozen daphnia this morning which was eaten by all.

Any recommendation on treatments which could help would be appreciated - thanks alot.

Bacterial infection and a bad one.
Forget the esha not good on columnaris.
Anti internal bacteria med by interpet and pimafix.
Or myxazin and pimafix.

Thanks Wilder I will look at getting those meds either online or at the LFS on Saturday. The swollen tetra isn't looking very good - I don't think he'll last very long. :(

Well the swollen tetra is still alive - thought he'd dies last night as I couldn't find him but he popped up again when I fed them! He looks sore inside on one side of him though.
I got some Myxazin and Pimafix through the post today however on the Myxazin it says not to use with any other treatments - is it okay to use them both or shall I try one and then the other?

Its ok to use pimafix with other meds.
The sore does it look like he has a red belly.

Thansk Wilder. Yes it does look like he has a red belly on the inside. I used the meds last night but this morning noticed one of the other tetras flicking against the wood at the bottom of the tank so now I'm worried about parasites too. Seems to be lots of problems at the moment but I checked the water again this morning when I saw the flicking and it was still 0 for ammonia and nitrite and 20 for nitrate so I'm not sure where we're going wrong.

The fish with the red belly sounds like he has septciemia.
Can you get a pic up on the board of the sick fish.
Columnaris can make them flick as well as parasites.

Here are some pics - I'm sorry I haven't quite got the hang of taking photos of fish (and ignore the yukky algae - trying to figure the best way to get rid)!

Keep going with the bacterial med, the only thing is sores can be due to parasites.
How many fish are flicking and rubbing.

I've only seen the one tetra do it on Friday but I haven't noticed it do it since then. I have no idea how healthy the cories look as they always hide when I approach the tank! The platy with the white on her side looks worse now - she's swimming erratically and spending a lot of time resting on the bottom of the tank. :( While the swollen tetra is swimming about and eating quite normally.
Thanks for your replies Wilder I appreciate it. I really want to get rid of whatever it is affecting my fish but it's difficult when you don't know what the problem is!!

If its a bad strain of columnaris sadly are meds are not that strong so they don't always work.
Good luck.

Unfortunately the platy died during the day. Poor thing was looking really bad yesterday - very thin and swimming akwardly. I have finished the course of Myxazin now but still have a couple of days of the Pimafix to go. The swollen tetra is still the same but doesn't look any worse. The other tetra still has the growth on its upper lip but it doesn't seem to be affecting it's eating! Any advice where to go from here please?

Did the fish go thin through not eating.
R.I.P.

No it seemed to be eating well - it started off the same size and the other platies when we got them a couple of months ago but ended up much smaller and has not been pregnant.
