Well, I walked into the lfs today and walked out with a 3G tank. I've been thinking about this for awhile and decided to try it. So here's what I got so far...

3G tank
maxijet 400
2x9w corallife
about 3 lbs of LR
and 3lbs of LS

Going to see what the temp is with just the lights for now and will probably take some more rock from my 14G. I got things set-up this evening and will see how it looks and do some aquascaping when it settles tomorrow. As for stocking it will just be a few inverts and some polyp frags from my other tank. I'll update with pics asap!

So the maxi wont take up the whole tank?, or are you gonna syphon the water out and blow it back in through some tubing?

Well, as for now it's in the tank...it's a 3G long so it's really not too bad in the tank. But I may take it out and run some plumbing instead. Definately need a heater as I found out when I looked at the temp this morning. Just waiting for it to settle then I'll post some pics!

O this should be interesting. I'v used the elite HOB heater for a 2.5 gallon tank and it kept it at a steady temp and only costs 8$ for me.

Any pics?

Well, the tank finally settled so I took a few pics...I just added a 25w heater today and the temp is now steady at 77 and the sg is 1.025, I haven't checked the other params yet. I've been doing some research on other picos any thinking about what I might put in it. possibly sexy shrimp, nass, hermit. We'll have to see.....lots of time to decide. I also need a background...black should do!

ENJOY!

O that looks nice, quite spacious. Have a few questions?

so are you not using a filter?

Doesn't the light fixture heat up the way it is?

So it doesn't look like the maxi-jet doesn't take up too much room?

Thanks for the reply's, as for your quesstions:

1) No filter, just the LR in the tank should do as there will only be a few inverts.

2)The light is sitting on a glass top and so far the temp is staying right at 77, they had a longer light when I bought that one that could have been raised off the top of the tank but I decided that I didn't want to spend the extra cash of it and I was hoping that with such a small tank the glass top would help limit evaporation loss causing SG change.

3) I think I'm gonna leave the maxi in the tank as I don't think it's too bad size wise in the tank.

What do ya think....I was gonna add some more LR? or is it good?

Also looking for info on fragging some corals from my 14G to put in the pico. I have some polyps, assorted mushrooms and xenia...any advice or good sites to look-up?

Ya I would definately add some more lr, it looks really empty.

O so the light fixture per say doesn't heat up since the heat can't escape as well from underneath because I'm thinking of buying the 12" coralife and stick it on a glass top

New update on the pico! added a few more LR pieces from my main tank and today I put in the cuc,
5 zebra hermits
1 nassarius
1 black turbo

I also picked up a few frags that are waiting to move to the pico. a few assorted polyps, finger leather...really enjoying messing around with this tank.

Enjoy the pics!

The pics really don't do it justice....I'll try to get some better shots

Wow, amazing  That powerhead still looks massive lol.

I was wondering if the inside of the light fixture heats up?

Yeah the light heats up but the tank temp seems to be stable....I wonder if it helps that I have a glass top on the tank? It definately is keeping evaporation under control tho.
