okay, so alot of betta tanks i see are really cheap, but they're under one gallon. are there any household objects over one gallon you could use? im not allowed to get anymore "tanks" but i figured if i could find something cheap that wouldn't classify as a tank or find something around the house that would work i could get another :D .

the two i have now get water changes every other day so this guy would, too.

I know vases are controversial, but a large vase looked after the same as as a normal tank might be ok?

i use nut containers from costco. they are really nice, all you have to do is give it a good rinse in warm water. they are less than a gallon though. huge bubblenests going, so i guess they are happy :good:

hmm i may try one of those. i just have to get my sister to take me out so i can get one xD.

I am going to play the devil's advocate here. This has been bothering me lately and it's not just you, tropical, but other people too. Maybe since you are not allowed to get any more tanks, you should abstain from buying more bettas? I just think that impulsive/compulsive betta buying is rather frightening is all. I mean you do have two lovely bettas already, why not just take care of them and all your other fish?

I am really only asking why get more. And I think I mean to ask this quesiton to everyone. Why get more and more and more?

I don't mean to offend you or anyone or make this a personal grievance, tropical. I am merely curious and unable to understand the reasoning behind something that I, personally, view as superfluous.

you think i just want to keep them? no, i love bettas, they're one of my favorite kinds of fish. what's wrong with getting a third? it's not like i'm going to just let them starve. it's not impulsive buying, i've been looking into getting another for a while. plus, wouldn't it be better me having another and keeping it in a smaller tank for a short time than it being forced to live in its dinky bowl forever?

I have loads of bettas, most of them have been in awful conditions in lfs and they are now in clean water, happy and loved....that's why I have so many bettas.

I have 4 Bettas and they are all in filtered, heated 5 Gallon tanks. They are happy and healthy and I take great care of them.
Fighters are my favourite fish so why shouldn't I have as many as I want. As long as they are well taken care of, I don't see the problem!

i agree it is better to have bettas being well looked after in nice clean water in a average sized tanks 1g+ rather than being in a tiny lil cup/bowl less than 1g dirty water hardly feed. It is better for people to have more bettas than have the bettas ill treated and most likely a short lifespan (thats in my opinion)

Plastic cheeseball, pretzel, etc. containers usually from 1-3 gallons in size plus you get yummy snack! Also the smaller clear Rubbermaid plastic totes or bins you can get anywhere from 1-10 gallons. Hmmm...larger mouth vases (covered of course) old empty coffee pots, glass canisters (the kind that store flour, sugar, etc.) You can find most of this stuff for under $10, just go to a thrift store or down the houseware section at Target. If you open your eyes and get creative you can find 1+ gallon stuff everywhere!
On another note, as long as the OP isn't betta "harbouring" or cannot care for her 2 bettas, I see nothing wrong with getting a third. Bettas were my first fish love, at one point I had 30 but they were all well cared for and not neglected with absolute spot on water changes. In the past 5 years I started exploring and becoming interested in other fish, I have since added 2 10g, 1 20g, and a 120g. Obviously since I have other tanks to maintain, as the years went buy when one of them passed on, I simply didn't automatically replace it and am now down to 7 bettas. No matter what I'll always keep a few...I mean who can resist their charm? :hey:

yeah, its really hard not to have more than 1 betta. i have 6 right now and im planning to get another one within 2 weeks :good: my parents dont really like it though because i watch them instead of doing my hw

Okay, thanks for humouring me. Maybe I'm just overly resistant to the "betta bug" or overly frugal or something. I'll stop hijacking the thread now. :p

This is what I did back in 2005 when I didn't have any small betta tanks. My kids get or used to get animal crackers and cheeseballs at Sams Wholesale Club here in Illinois and then we would throw away the container. One day after the round cheeseball container was empty I decided to see how much water it would hold so I filled it upto about 4 inches from the top and it held close to 3 gallons, so I cleaned it out, put some red rock and a aquarium log ornament in it and whala I had myself a nice temporary betta tank. The container however is a little flimsy but mine held up fine for 4-5 months, it's plastic so I'm not sure how you would heat something like this, the square animal cracker container holds aprox. the same amount of water and also does great. After a while I decided that going to yardsales and finding great deals was a better route to go, I'VE picked up 2 5 gallon tanks, 1 3 gallon critter keeper and about 7 1 gallon pickle jars and a 2 gallon glass vase in the past year or so for about 6 to 7 dollars all together, so if yardsales are plentiful thats a great way to go----it seems when people are tired of having fish they'll get rid of their stuff for almost nothing.
