This fish was added to my tank 1 week ago. The fish has appeared fine, has been eating and has generally given no cause for concern. Got up this morning to find that it appears to be covered in a dusting of white and it's fins are clamped. I was thinking possibly velvet and was going to treat the tank with Protozin, but just thought I'd ask you all for your opinions first.

Water parameters:
Temp - 30 degrees celcius
pH - 5.8
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 50 (does require a water change)

velvet was my first thought as well.

Protozin should be fine and remember the repeat the treatment and remove any carbon u may be using

Thickening of the slime coat is a defence against parasites or something in the water is irritating it.
How long have you had the discus and is it alone? Could it be stressed by anything else in the tank.

I have had the discus for a week, it is in a tank with 4 other discus and other fish. Nothing appears to be bothering it, it was fine until today, all the other discus seem fine as do all the other fish in the tank.

Can anyone explain the comment above about repeating the treatment ?

All i ment is some people think u treat once and leave it, like u said over the corrcect period of days

How the fish doing, if it's clearing up I would do another round of the med.
