All black is a personal choice. Looking at your tank I would kinda carry on the square rock theme to give a sort of 3d effect but hey, who am I to give advice on tank design.....they slated mine a while back :(

I vote for black! It's on both my tanks and I like it. :good:

I LOVE IT!

you can buy an aquarium background that is plain black on one side, and blue on the other... have a look for it.

what tank is it? a juwel... 125?

i really like the rocks and plants - less is certainly more... sometimes!

one question - why is your filter outlet pointing straight up?

actually, two questions - what fish are you going to keep?

it is a juwel rekord 98, i have the outlet pointing up so it breaks the surface kinda airiates the water and i shall put a figure 8 puffer in there i was thinking about a 3 inch common pleco and perhaps a talking catfish well atleast until i start andding the salt then i shall put the cat in my other tank glad you like it.

tank looks good so far, i love tanks with sand, they look awesome. With the backround choice, it is a personal choice, and it kind of depends on what fish you have, i mean if you have some beautiful colorful cichlids or something then you wouldnt need anything extravigant for the bg, just so it doesnt take away from the fish.

could you not just move the filter up near the surface with the outlet half above and half below to airiate the tank? a fig 8 puffer is a brackish water fish and a common plec will grow massive (over a foot and a half long) far too quickly. Why not try something like a clown plec or bristlenose plec? they stay smaller. Or what you could do is have a species tanks of dwarf puffers. You couldn't really have any tankmates because puffers are nippy, maybe some ottos, but that's all. i don't know about the talking catfish, but I think they get to a decent size (depending on what "talking catfish" you would want) it really depends on how big your tank is.
how big is your tank?
