Hi,

Im looking into getting a group of corys and i was planning on getting 6 albino's. Today at my LFS they had loads of panda corys, i just wanted to know if i could get 3 albino corys and 3 panda corys and would they all get along?

Thanks,

Shaun

Well I keep my pandas with small less boisterous cories. I am not the greatest for some of this knowledge and I would be reticent to advise you. Here's what I know. Pandas like a cooler temp: I think 72 degrees to 75 degrees Ferenheit--you have to convert to Celcius. Albinos are not a species but a variant that is in more than one species: mostly peppers and aeneus. Peppers I think like it a little warmer. Aeneus I'm not sure. These are the things you look at to mix species. Mine are mixed mostly by recommendations from Inchworm and Bryan Epstein of CorysRUs.

This will bump your thread and hopefully we will get some attention.

I think I would get all one species for now and then get another another time. Going wiith your first idea of 6 of one species is probably a good one. In addition pandas as cute as they are can be a bit picky and the albinos of both aeneus and peppers are very robust, active, and hearty. Personnally with out better info than I have I would not mix the two.

Inchworm! Where are you?

Peppered cories like cooler water, C. aeneus like warmer water.

I would also recommend the Albino C. Aeneus, especially if its your first cory. They are not fussy about water parameters and will eat just about everything.

Thanks Barracuda518 for your reply. I think il go with 6 albino's then :) What types of food is best to feed them? Im thinking of Flake, bloodworm, brine shrimp and maybe some of those small cat fish pellets? Also do they like veg?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as this is my first time in keeping corys :D

Many thanks,

Shaun

Good, Im glad you chose to go with those. You will really enjoy them. Please post some pictures when you get them.

As for feeding, you are on the right track. Feed them a high quality flake food (I use Ocean Nutrition flavored with brine shrimp), spirualla disks, Hikari Sinking Wafers, Tetramin Tablets, Earthworm sticks, frozen blood worms, and algae wafers. Not all at the same time of course. I vary it up from day to day. They really dont like vegetables, so I wouldnt worry with that. They will get vegetable matter from the algea wafers and spirualla disks.

I have recently started using Boyd's Vita Diet and that stuff is great. It boosts their immune system among other things and they really like it. You can check it out here:

Thanks Barracuda518, i have made a note of all the things you recommend for me to feed them on and i will get the ones i havent got gradually ready for when i have them. Just out of interest do 'Albino Corys' breed easily? as i am likely to get males and females if i bought 6 as my LFS dont seperate the males and females they have all the albino's altogether, all the panda's together and so on.

Thanks again,

Shaun

If you get the Albino C. Aeneus, which odds are you will as they are very common, then they will most likely spawn very well for you as long as the water conditions are right. If you are interested and the cories are old enough, then you can tell the difference in a male/female by looking down on them. The female will be wider and bigger then the male.

Good Luck B)

Thanks again Barracuda518 for your reply, il let you know how i get on when i get them and il post some pics if i can.

Sounds good. Here are some old pictures of mine if you are interested:

Great fish to have :good:

Great photos. I cant wait to get mine they look really nice. I like the ones with the 2 black stripes, which type are they? I would also like to get more different types of corys eventually which is why i asked about having 3 panda's and 3 albinos.

Do you breed them aswell then?

The ones with the 2 black stripes are Corydoras axelrodi. They are among my favorites too. There are 11 of them scattered throughout that tank

You can mix cories with no problems as long as you make sure they have the same requirements (temperature, PH, stuff like that). C. panda are very nice, but like Jollysue said, can be very sensitive. They dont like to be around the more active cories like the C. aeneus.

If you like C. panda, check these out:

:D

EDIT: About breeding them, I am not trying to, but they dont care what I want and do it anyways

They look very nice! How many corys do you own then? Too many to count? lol :D Do you have a tank/s just for your corys?

Here is a pic of the tank the Albino's will be going in soon :)

Sorry about the reflection on the glass

I have over 90 cories scattered throughout 4 tanks. 3 of them are cory only tanks.

Your tank looks good. I bet they will really like living there :D
