A New Plec - L052

Well after looking at that amazing plec on one of the other threads, I went to the not-so-LFS today and I spoted a nice looking fish I just had to have him for my spare tank

It was labeled as an L052 but I'm not sure tbh.
I haven't had chance to look it up yet.

here's a pic:

he/she is very dark at the moment, probably due to stress. he was a lovely clear white and black striped plec in the tank in the shop.

The tank he is in at the moment is very dark from tannins from the monapi wood in there, so I'll be doing water changes every day to clear it up now.

I say I dont think it is a L052 as it doesn't look like the ones on PC.com

the ones on PC dont have stripes, they have a more irradic patterning?
but I'll take your word on it then

It wasnt a typo - I ment flat they are thinner than your normal plecs

hehe I knew you were having a go, just thought you where saying it was a FAT fish hehehe

I think Butterfly Plecs can change their pattern (I can't remember if it's night to day etc). Hope that helps.

Found this on PC:

Similar to D. brachyura but in L052 the stripes are more less clearly seperated and form a network pattern in adults. The ground colour of D. brachyura is more orange when you compare them directly. Some authors report that L052 doesn't have a night-time / stress alternative colouration akin to that exhibited by D. brachyura, but this is refuted by other keepers of this fish and cannot be considered reliable.

I have one of these fellas - he was labelled as a clown pleco but I looked him up and thought butterfly pleco/L168... which I think is also L052 ..

On driftwood he gets very dark, on the lighter gravel his stripes come out again. He likes hanging out in his driftwood tunnel but he's cute

When we first got him he was a bit blotchy, which I've seen described as stress colouration - that disappeared quickly though.

Kept wanting to get in cosy with my male bristlenose who kept elbowing him to get out of his space - they're happy to hang out now though.

thanks for the info I checked PC.com and they are the same family but different species

L052 - Dekeyseria Sp.
L168 - Dekeyseria brachyura

This is my fish, not the L052.
