Moody's Aqua Cube Journal.

Dissaster strikes,

Added my DIY Co2 2 days ago, working well, last night found the cherry shrimp at the suface, my thouhgts were to much Co2 so i added an air stone to counter act the Co2.
Just got in from work and found 1 dead cherry shrimp and 1 dead or dieing, air stone has been on all day.

Crap oh crapy crap!!!!!!!!!!!

Tested the water the reading are.

PH 6.5
KH 70 degrees
Co2 74ppm !!!!!!!!!!!!! Killer
Ammonia 0 ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
Nitrate 10 ppm

So lesson learnt with Co2 overdose!

Great tank! Really like the simplicity

for such a small tank, A big bottle would be out of the question!

Sorry bout the shrimps. Add snails!!

Sorry about the shrimps. That sucks, I've made CO2 booboos too.

Moody your readings for your kh are you sure its 70 deg not 70 ppm.
70 deg would give you a co2 leavel of 664.08 ppm :hyper:
70 ppm would give 37.95 ppm of co2
7deg will give you 66.41 ppm
heres a link for a co2 calculator
co2 calulator

for those of you envious of the tank, you could look for a cheaper alternative like a glass vase. I think that I have seen them at Ikea.

RYO i used the Nutrafin KH GH test kit, the results are in mg/L so it was 70 mg/L KH.
Now im confused, im getting a better test kit.

Anne, anything is possible for a nano but will "anything" look as good?

I've see plenty of glass vases that are about that size and the seamless edges look about the same. You just have to do alot of hunting. I am currtently working on gathering what I need to make a nano tank out of a beanie box fitted with a DIY film canister filter. I found a candle holder for the stand. The beanie fits in perfectly.

Also, I am a member of another forum. There is someone on there that has built a nano tank out of a simple clear acrylic waste bin.

now thats an amazing filter!!

What fish are you getting? A Betta? or just Shrimps?

Im surprised no shrimps have escaped!

Thats a genious filter! If only I want's scared of emptying 90lts of water on to the sitting room floor I'd probably give that a go myself!

Sam

Looks Good Moody!! do you really need a filter? if you do frequent water changes wont that work? Just may look a bit scruffy with the big filter next to it. Might hopefully get myself a aquacube soon! :good:

Yer themuleous i worry about it leeking too thats why its not above my PC any more.
Mantis my main reason for the filter was to try and trap the tiny particls that tend to settlle when theres no water movment, i dont like completly still water.

I noticed this morning that the filter had pumped more water out than it ha scuked inn, dont know how or why.I think maybe if i slow thw flow out (which can be done on the pump) maybe it will settle.
If not im bloody scrapin that idea and getting one of those tiny hang on the back filters, then it will go back on my desk.

Lots of trial and error
