I just took a few pics tonight while doing the evening feed...
This is an F1 HM Spawn, most are missing some of their ventrals or stunted, thanks to the snail.
They are all (except one who is pink and blue) the mix of green and turq of their dad, I don't see any marble yet.

Cute!

I have 30+ week-old fry in my five-gallon. An F1 CTxCT spawn. :hey:

They're with three small snails (about the size of a pinky nail), think they really inhibit the growth of ventrals?
Should I take the snails out?

Oh, and at what age do fry gain colour?

Hi! I will try and get a pic of the pink/blue babe today when I feed them, it is like a mustard gas but the pink is where yellow should be.

It depends on the color the fry are, when they start to develop it. I find all my fry have obvious color by 5 weeks. Usually I see color starting on dark bodies in a week, but light bodied take longer.

In my exp snails do contribute. This spawn is my only prob ever with ventrals, and the only one raised with one apple snail. all other conditions the same, the other spawn their age has no issues.

Alot of breeders use snails (some report ventral loss, others do not), but I am not using them from now on (I lie, I put one in yesterdat for a few hours to eat brown algae:) but took him out and vacuumed right after). I'm not risking it.

They will, and they will be discounted due to the ventral loss - even though genetically they are sound and dandy:)

I expect probably not...as they get older they darken like mad. Its cute tho!

FYI this male is now a blue/black lace! this is him at approx 3 mos, and in a few days he totally chanced color. and his fins grew tons!
