my plec has got what looks loke a ball of clay on his bottom fin ray of his tail. its white and looks like a ball of clay? any idea of what it is? how to treat it?

Does it look more like a cauliflower, and is i fluffy looking, does it have a red centre or edging to it.
Does it have a greasy appearance with black or red streaks running throw it.

What colour is it and is it hard or soft clay.

Sound like this.
Fish pox is characterized by white, pink or gray wax-like growths on the skin and fins.

Sorry you said it was white.
Is it possible to load a pic up of the affected fish.

Lymphocyctis virus. This virus induces massive cells to form which appear grossly as greyish-white masses on the fins and gills.

now all my fish have got it too. but its on their body. like little tufts of fungus and there about 2-3 mm across. patruding out of the skin. what the hell is this stuff. what i treat it with???

where is everybody. i really need to know. QUICKLY!!!! £40 for flyers and there covered in this stuff. help. its spreading really quicky like when i woke up this morning there was hardly nothing, a few houres later and its really really noticable!!!! HELP ME.

If this is on all your fish and it's expanding rapidly, it would have to be a bacterial infection. I would start treatment immediately. You can raise tank temp slowly, add aquarium salt and treat with antibiotics, Terramycin for one. Copper sulfate, Acriflavine, Furan, and Terramycin may all be used externally to treat Columnaris.

Check your water parameters. Illness is usually a sign of stressed fish and/or poor water conditions. SH

thanks mate. wil i be able to treat the tank witht the blue lobster still inside it?
EDIT: it doesnt look like Columnaris. it looks more like a hard white point coming out of the fish about 3-5 mm long. any idea what it is? how to treat it and if its safe to use with a lobster inside the tank?
immediate answer needed....

Without a pic, it's hard to say, but, anything spreading that quickly, IMO, is bacterial until proven otherwise and if it were my fish, I would proceed in that direction. I have a cobalt blue lobster..it survived treatment for ich. Certainly removing him from the system would be optimal, but....do you have that option? SH

i have a spare tank but havnt another heater. the temp is around 69*
heres a pic. sorry for the crummy quality.. DSCF0313.JPG
