Hi,
Here are some pics of my home made moonlighting. I used two 12" cold cathode tubes and a universal adapter. I can now use 3 settings for this, of, 12V, 9V and 6V. Here are some pics of the different brightness variations. Obviously the brightest is 12V and the darkest is 6V. Which setting do you guys think I should use. At the moment I am using the middle 9V setting. I know this forum, isn't strictly for questions, but I thought I would show my home made kit off (and also this is one of the only forums I can attatch images to lol).

I went home made with 8 blue 4000MCD LEDs...it's less intense than the cold cathode and I like the moonbeam effect. SH

No not at all, in fact they seem to like to come out when they are on. I tend to leave my moonlight lights on for a couple of hours after the main lights go off and then turn them on a couple of ours before they are turned back on. That then still gives my fish some time with the tank being completely dark and also reduces the stress caused by turning the main lights straight on.

looks fantastic :D ive always found that photos of our tank with the moonlights on just never seem to come out well & dont give you an idea of how good it really looks but your 1st pic is really good

Most of the fish seem to not care at all with the moonlights on. You can see some of them sleeping. I've seen some weird stuff going on that you wouldn't see during the day. The LEDs were easy to do...hardest part, if you could call it that, was soldering. It took me about 2-3 hours to make an 8 LED light. It's just beautiful at night with all the lights off....like a big nightlite. SH
