I came home one day, and I saw my betta, Moe, all swelled up and not moving much. He's gotten better over the past couple of days, but what could that be?

Are his scales lifted up, so that he's got a rather pine cone-ish effect, when seen from above?

Even without the raised scales, it still sounds like Dropsy, to me, which is essentially kidney failure.

But before you panic, is there any chance of a picture?

Also, your water stats would be a good thing to include in a post like this, as it'll allow knowledgeable people the sort of information they require to help you diagonse the situation. What volume of water is he in? What's the ambient temperature of it? How often do you water change? What are the ammonia/nitrite/nitrate readings? What do you generally feed him? How old is he?

To be honest, this happened about a month ago, and I was wondering what it was, but I will try to give the most information I can for you. I change his water about every 2 weeks, and he is in this container:

I'm not sure how much water is in there, since I'm not the one who bought it. I would assume that his water temp is room temp, because it doesn't have a heater or anything, plus it's not that large of a container. I've had him since July, and I usually feed him HBH: Betta Bites. I hope that is enough information. Here is a picture of him now:

No disrespect meant... but in that container, I would change his water every two days and clean the gravel at least once a week.

How well is he swimming, now a days, and what steps have you taken in his treatment?

He doesn't swim very often. Sometimes he moves around his tank, but most of the time he just sits there. Now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever seen him poop. He's in a room that I'm not usually in.

Could be constipation try some shelled peas, do you feed alot of dry foods to the betta.
