Fieryblack Shiners

It's funny - in Africa, the European fishnerds I was with wanted to talk about North American species of aquarium fish. They were really well liked, though not common.

I've kept the ones from around here, but stopped when I realized this far north (in southern Canada), they need winter temperatures and I couldn't offer that. The many attractive species south of here are hidden in the hobby. Sometimes it's illegal to keep them, and other times they swim under aquarists' noses without them knowing. It may be the same for many Australians.

It's funny how we see Mexican fish as aquarium fish, but fish from the United States aren't kept. If you have a way of cooling tanks down for winter without them freezing solid or splitting, there are a lot of fish to learn about in the USA.

The shiners I see in this thread are really cool fish.
