I am looking at my danio's and the female(Lepoard) seems to be sitting on the bottom of the tank and then the Male (Zebra) comes and goes into a very tight circle around her. They spin around like this right next to each other for a little bit and then go off and may come back and continue this. The female does not move much when there are not other danios around. She eventually gets up and goes around the tank again.

Any Ideas about these actions? Normal? Mating?

Thanks.

When breeding their usualy darting all over the tank and the only dash down to the bottom or amoung the plants to release the eggs.

Also I've never seen or heard on the two species crossing.

So i dont think their breeidng.

How ever I'm not sure what their doing!!!!!!!
Let us know what happens?

I am not sure what they were doing exactly, but it seemed the female was not enjoying it. It ended up not living, and was red all around the front fins. What exactly could be the cause of death?

Their are many things that can cause that.

Ammonia burns from not enough water changes or other toxins like nitrites.
it could be an open wound that been infected.

Spinning could be a inner ear problem, bain desiaese, virual problems.

Best thing i can segest u use a good general tonic something like melafiix or protozin.

Do water changes, after treating use active carbon to remove other toxins.
